Data recovery software recommendations

Somoene handed me two drives from a raid and told me that one was bad and one was good, i could just have them.

Plugged them into my system to test which was which and the intel control panel started rebuilding the raid1 redundancy with my personal data drive, with no warning or anything that it choose a drive to rebuild with.

I noticed the problem after about 30s (~2.6gb max transfer) and rebooted to the intel raid bios to disable that raid, but that was long enough to hose the partitions on my drive.

The overwritten 1tb drive was partitioned with 4gb on the outside for a test xp install and the rest in one large partition with ~800gb of data on it.

What data recovery software do you recommend?

The really annoying thing is that I used my backup drive to image a friends' laptop last week for a reinstall.

yeah i remember old adaptec controllers would do this before WWN.

they'd use soft stamps on the drive so you'd have to long format them after being in a raid set before putting them into a new raid-set or they'd do all kinds of freaky stuff.

thank god modern (hp smartarray) uses WWN now. no mixups like that.

Theres no really amazing free DR software,

You can try partition find and mount

Otherwise, Getdataback, or R-studio are your best bet, both run 50-100 dollars.
