Data center migration *success story with pics*

We decided to use a colocation vacility rather than take care of our own data center. Everything had to be moved and was done so by a budget rent-a-van. The downtime was around five hours total. The colocation facility was 8 blocks from our current data center. Some precision errors in the tray spacing caused most of the delays along with a patch cable that was not plugged in for our net feed. We have a /20 allocated to use and we were able to migrate everything without making any network changes by just telling our new colo to advertise our BGP route.

The beauty of this is that it went without a hitch! We simply turned everything back on and our 10,000 email accounts and 1700 web hosting customers were back online! Now we can save a bundle on our Internet feed and we have also gained gas powered backup power and a proper data center facility.

Just thought I would share. I'm quite happy with the results.

Cool, congrads. That's always a major undertaking and it sounds like you pulled it off well.
