I have been looking for a program that will allow me to do a daily backup of only files that have been modified and archive it in a way that it is searchable. Can anynoe suggest a program that will do this?

This is how I am doing it now.
I run a search in WinXP by date modified.
All files that are returned I add to a .zip file.
I do this for each directory on our server...about 10 directories taking a couple hours just to do the search alone.
Then I burn it on a CD or DVD depending on how much data was backed up.

The only problem with this is when I need to retrieve a file, I cant find an easy way to search for the last modified, backed up version of a specific file. I run a search in WinXP on all the zip files but I guess its alot where my computer crashes at times. Can anyone suggest a program or a better way of backing up? I usually do a monthly backup also that is about 6GB large.

TIA,
Rob

I don't know if PowerQuest still sells Disk Keeper, but it moves specified changed files to a special directory as they change. I think it supported multiple instances of the same file. I myself backup daily to tape via Retrospect. It can backup to many different types of media, plus you can schedule it so it run automatically.

I would hesitate to use any software that requires you to install any of M$'s new monopoly ware.
. Just go to http://www.majorgeeks.com and click on "backup" in the list on the left. You will get a list of more programs for backing up than you ever thought existed.

i use rar from the command line and wrote a batch file to run at a certain time each day for my winxp boxen, then move it to a networked drive for archival. that way im not stuck with the MS proprietary backup format when things go wrong. rar lets you add by modification date
