I have a bunch of dat files on a backup I pulled out of my old kazaa directory. I know that way back then we used to download some band concerts and such and Id like to try to find out what the files are since some are quite large. Is there any program that can play full and partial dat files??

Thanks in advance.

try a proggy like filesnoop.
If it is a text(ish) file then you might be able to gleen some info.

It does depend on the format of the '.dat' file as to whether you can get info.
What you could do, is to make a few copies of the file, rename the extension to MPG/JPG/TIFF/MP3 etc etc and see if you can play them. DO MAKE SURE YOU SCAN FOR VIRUSES FIRST and that you have the av software on to scan all opening proggies.

They are not really data files, they are partial video files (or whatever you were downloading), with a .dat extension designating their incompletion. Just open them in WMP. If not, then try VirtualDub. Depends on if they were mpeg or avi.
