7:50 am | Victim shot during robbery at pump
slyttle@charlotteobserver.com

A robbery victim attempted to fight off an attacker with gasoline early Monday. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police captured a suspect in the incident, but the victim ended up with a gunshot wound.

The attack happened shortly after midnight at a convenience store in the 4200 block of Glenwood Drive in west Charlotte. Police say a suspect tried to rob a victim who was standing at the gas pumps. The victim retaliated by aiming the gas pump at the suspect and spraying him with gasoline. Undeterred, the suspect then fired a shot at the suspect, hitting him in the upper arm.

The suspect got away without further incident, but he was captured a short time later by police. Robbery detectives are investigating the case. Medic transported the victim to Carolinas Medical Center with injuries that were described by police as not life-threatening. No fire resulted from the gunfire and gasoline mixing.

Is it especially dangerous to discharge a firearm near gasoline?
