probably a good solution for anybody that wants single slot functionality.

My 8800GT was a fucking furnace with the stock cooling. Added a vf-900, all has been well OC'd since then.

Heat is actually a byproduct of inefficiency. Pushing a rock on the ground produces more heat than rolling a wheel but it does less work.

I'd say the 8800GTS512 is a wise choice. It's a good time to get one, the prices have dropped quite a bit since X-mas, and nothing newer or much faster coming out anytime soon. It's about as fast a card as you'll need, the 8800GTX and Ultra aren't much faster, but it's noticably faster than a 9600GT. The chip is powerful. It's limited by bandwidth. It can easily be fixed with gddr5. When games of tomorrow gets limited by SP it will improve more over 9600gt. There's nothing inefficient about G92. It gives 8800gtx and ultra run for its money with only 16 rop and 256bit memory bus.

Installed my second GT yesterday evening. Both cards running 63c at idle now
and 83c max playing COD 4 at 1920 x 1200 with 4xx and all things set high.
No crashes or any problems at all. Plays fine even at hi temps.

Reference card my friend. All the distributer does is slap a sticker on it, install the bios, and put it in the box. bfg, evga, xfx, ecs cards are all identical cards mechanically and have identical cooling (unless they're a model with upgraded cooling of course). Probably my card just has a bad fan control unit (fan never speeds up) and a very weak core (crashes 10-20*C cooler than most) purely by chance. Moot point now though, the card is leaving me for a better place next week.
