Who else has had to go to the degensive drivers course because of too many points? I had to when I first got my liscense, and now 10 years later I have to go again.

I was coming back from Northern PA on Route 1 last night, and anyone who has driven there can tell you it is deserted past 10 PM, well it was 11:30 and I decided to make some good time, because there was not a car in sight. I went about 90-95, may have approached 100 in some long straights, and everything was fine, so I go to pull off on I95, and suddenly a cop pulls out to the side of me and lo and behold the road was radared that night (stupid me I never turned my radar detector on) and I got another ticket. So that's 10 points for me and I have to go back to traffic school to get 2 points off in the next 2 weeks or something so my DL is not suspended.

Anyways just curious who else has had to do this? I am in NJ for the time being and that is where the points are.

Fight the ticket to get the points reduced, shouldn't be as hard if this is your first offense in that district. I speed late nights on RT1 all the time and haven't gotten ticketed, just have to know when to go and when to slow I guess lol.

Any out of state moving violation is 2 points in NJ. He'd have to get it thrown out entirely.

Edit: Unless this happened in NJ, it's not clear. But 90+ in a 55 in NJ would be more than 2 points I think. Unless the cop was nice.

Why? I have only been in two accidents in my life time, one in a parking lot that was my fault and the other on a back road going 40 when someone else hit me.

I only speed when it is safe to do so, and unlike the craptastic camry or accord or civic, my car does not feel like it is coming apart when I go above the speed limit so it is very safe.

Which is not going to happen with my record.

How many people who speed actually think to themselves that they are acting unsafe? The law determines what is safe and what is not. Not you. That's why the speed limit is there. What if an animal had run across the road? Could you have stopped in time going 100MPH? What if there had been some debris in the road? Would you have had enough time to see it and stop in time? This is why we have reasonable speed limits. It's not just about other cars, it's about safety in general.

Yes and I know the route well, there are no animals up at that time in PA this late in the season, and I'll take my chances with debris, believe it or not but I have a steering wheel to go around things, and cross drilled brembo breaks with hawk break pads that can let me stop in fairly short times. I don't over drive my headlights if that's what your asking.

10 points? That's a lot! Here in Kahleeforneeya, you get 1 for most infractions, and 2 is a BIG ticket...(reckless driving, speed over 100 mph, racing, etc) and will probably cost a minimum of $1000. Of course, you're limited as to how many points you're allowed to get:
12810.5. (a) Except as otherwise provided in subdivision (b), a person whose driving record shows a violation point count of four or more points in 12 months, six or more points in 24 months, or eight or more points in 36 months shall be prima facie presumed to be a negligent operator of a motor vehicle.

I've had to take a safe drivers course for getting too many tickets. It was pretty boring, just like a days worth of hearing about how important it is to wear a seatbelt, etc.

I know I'm probably a decently safe driver, and yes I do speed, but normally not above 80 (98% of the time) simply because my minivan would fall apart at such high speeds. To say that driving at higher speeds does not equate to dangerous is stupid. You can't possibly be MORE SAFE by speeding.

I'm not saying you're going to crash. I'm not telling you to stop speeding because I'm afraid that you're going to kill me someday, but rather because you might get another ticket another day. So to prevent people from complaining about their tickets, I think the best way is simply to stop speeding. Sure you may wonder why speeding isn't so bad because sure it doesn't seem so evil when you can handle it, but if you want to avoid those tickets, not speeding would be a great way to start...

While you are making up all that time speeding in traffic court and in driving school my craptastic Corolla will continue to be long time paid off, my insurance only $48 a month, passing every gas station on the way and I'll also be getting to my destinations ontime :)

One of my destinations will be the bank.. for a DEPOSIT... make those often? :D

This thread is not about complaining about tickets or what not, or if speeding is dangerous. I speed a lot, mostly because I know I can handle it. I do not however go extreme speeds like the people that go 120 on the AC express way at night because I do know that unlike places like the autobahn our roads are not built to handle it. Anyway I just wanted to see how many people have been to these schools.

I think traffic school over the internet is the best deal, at least for time expended.

It sounds like that defensive driving course is appropriate for you.

A: Most of the animals that are hit on the road are hit at night, despite there being far more traffic during the day. Yes, the animals that are typically hit are still more active at night (raccoons, foxes, possums, deer, etc.)
B: You have 2 accidents? That's way more than I've had in 20 years.
C: wtf?? "look at me, I have cross drilled brembo brakes with hawk brake pads..." Your stopping ability is limited by the friction between the tires and the road surface.
D: "when I go above the speed limit so it is very safe.." Yeah, that pretty much makes you an idiot on the road.
E: "I speed a lot, mostly because I know I can handle it"
Apparently you haven't learned your lesson; the rest of us can only hope that you get a few more points next month and they take away your driver's license. That'll make the roads a lot safer for us. Think about it for a second... do people who speed end up in accidents? Of course, probably only the ones who think "I'm speeding, but don't think I can handle it."

C: wtf?? "look at me, I have cross drilled brembo brakes with hawk brake pads..." Your stopping ability is limited by the friction between the tires and the road surface. I sometimes have drag slicks on the back, and also lateral g comes into effect, but only if your brake assembly can take it that far.
D: "when I go above the speed limit so it is very safe.." Yeah, that pretty much makes you an idiot on the road. No, I only speed if I know I can, if there is traffic I go the speed limit, if it is a windy road, I go the speed limit, if it is a road I know and it is straight hell yes i'll go ten to fifteen over.

I never said it was, but it sure as hell can go at speeds better than the average daily driver out there.
