god man..i'm just building up marines and all of a sudden the zergs come over and theres a ton of them and they beat the crap out of me...what the hell?

n00b helper #1: speed hack, n00b speed hacks change your windows clockspeed, vet. speedhacks just change your gamespeed, so when your zerg opp is building his six lings to rush you you'll have 12 ultras/carriers/tanks to counter it

n00b helper #2: map hack, see the entire map

There is no universal cheat detector in sc (like pb for hl), but there are some client cheat detectors that say "player 6 is using maphack" even though there may be no player 6.


To defend against 12 ling/6 zealot rush:

terran: build 2 bunkers asap, fill em up with marines asap
zerg: 2 sunkens asap
toss: 4 photon cannons asap

(other than that, learn to play with the Protoss then it will all make sense...)

recon, recon, recon. I can't stress that enough. If you don't know what they are building how would you know what to build to counter?

And bunkers????!?! This is no compstomp, my man. Maybe one bunker to slow them down. Of course, if you just plain suck..then no amount of advice can help you. If you have a decent build, then work on unit control. Know when to pull back and when not to. That's why Starcraft is a true RTS, you actually will have to think on the spot.

omfg, all you guys are city builders. All I have to say is your best defense is your offense. Just look at this way, if your opponent out manned you with his attacking force then he's simply a better player/builder than you. So, you will lose eventually. But on the other hand if you manage to hold out his attack or he decides not to attack you, then you have a big infantry to attack your enemy's base. Bunker is good for defense only, but your infantry is good for both.

forget the bunkers
marines and medics.
if you build up a gd offence your not gonna need the bunkers
and never stop building scv's.

by the way, my gf found it a lot easier to learn with protoss.
coz most newbs dont have enough units, and when you dont have enough units the few you have with toss will last longer

i play brood war. if you wanna play and see how i build, let me know. you can read about strategies but it takes a lot of instinct on your own to really be good at it. you have to be able to know what your enemy is building and doing at ALL times while juggling resources and building your own men. leave a miner outside their base just as a warning if they decide to move their units to attack. every few minutes or so, send a unit right into their base to test their defense or offense. just keep in mind that either you have good defense or good offense. there is no real compromise. if you see them going heavy D, then don't sweat too much about building defense but rather offense. also NEVER EVER EVER say "oh i'll just build a couple more units then attack" while you see an opening. many newbies make that mistake because the time you take to make that few units, they will also get a few units so there is NO point. use good judgement and common sense. i can go on and on!

Try using this pairing, 5 marines, 4 firebats, 3 medics; make 2 or three of these groups.

Use bunkers as much as you can to defend.

Siege tanks work wonders on the Zerg, splash damage will rip them apart.

ALWAYS REASERACH STIMPACKS EARLY; use them. U-238 shells for marines help a lot also.

If you are on an unlimited minerals map, you should build up to ~35 SCVs before stopping.

Make your production massively parrallel, the faster you can produce, the faster you can fight

oh yeah, use buildings to your advantage!!! don't leave a wide ass opening into your base. stick biuldings at the opening that will slow down any attacking units. a good rule of thumb is to ask yourself " what is the ratio of attacker to defender?" if you stick buildings at the entrance and only 1-2 zealots are able to get through one at a time while you have 4-5 zealots pounding those 1-2, you will be able to easily knock them back even if you are outnumbered. bunkers are absolutely unncessary unless you're getting pound hard by a bunch of guys at once. remember: a good offense is a good defense! (screw the other way around)

altho terran is devastatingly powerful by mid game with stim and seige, they are the hardest to learn...take whodeeny and little prince's advice and try toss or zerg. personally toss makes the most 'sense' but zerg is definitely easier in terms of management and mass buildup.

aside from bats, medics (don't forget stim research) and possibly bunker(s), use structure formation. with marines vs lings, just make supplies at your choken/entrance so that it hinders movement, but don't block yourself in completely. this allows you plenty of free hits while the lings run around the formation before having access to your men. if you play temple, you should grasp the 2 supply/brax formation immediately, blocks the entrance so not even a ling or peon can pass through.

I always hop on BNet for a couple of games now and then.. sure wouldn't mind playing some SC with fellow AT'ers. Just name channel and time :)

zergies ... go sunken, then keep on making drones, more sunkens and spores, get gas and make that thing for multalisk. Do 6 muta to the back of your opponents base... I dunno if that works ne more, I stopped playing long time ago :)
