Darm Film Covering Monitor - How to Remove?

I have an old Samsung 955DF that I've been using for many years. It seemed to get darker and darker, which I attributed mostly to old age. But now I noticed that on the corners, it looks like some of the dark stuff is either peeling off or is disintegrating... and I notice that behind this film on the outer glass, the picture is as bright as ever.

So three questions:
1. Is this dark film supposed to be there, or is this dust and dirt that accumulated over the years?
2. How can I get rid of this thing?
3. If I remove it will I get more radiation?

Please advise, thank you.

I would say the odds of you being exposed to radiation by removing the screen "film" are a whole lot worse than you winning Power Ball. Take the thing off.
I don't know what it's purpose is/was, but I'll bet you can do without it just fine. Might even be able to read what comes up on the monitor.

That is a glare filter. Once it starts peeling you're basically screwed. It never comes off easily or cleanly, and the monitor never looks good again.

Time for a new monitor.
