Downloaded the demo for Darkstar One tonight and played through 2 training missions. the graphics are a bit cartoony but seems like it will be a pretty cool game. Will have to hook up my joystick and try it that way.

Its made by Ascaron, the people who made Sacred, I believe.

freelancer was awesome...why isnt that genre more popular? Its prolly cause of all these stupid mmorpgs

I want to play the demo but it keeps crashing, gives me some sort of mip map error and brings up the help documents in German. Any ideas?

great demo, too bad ppl already played it in germany for a while now and say game is very very lame and you will be doign same stuff over and over, that's in story mode and in infinte mod it's even worse...older titles like freelancer and privateer were bit better orverall, aslo gfx are not on level with todays games, many suggested getiing into x3 if you are a fan

i sure miss starlancer, wing commander prophecy and freespace titles....awesome games, i have feeling that down the road we'll see a really good space combat sim once oen of the big boys in the biz will make one

I was just reminicing about Wing Commander the other day. Another series EA killed off by buying out Origin and shutting them down shortly after.

Freelancer was ok, but just got way too repetitive to keep it interesting.

Anyone get it? What do you think?

I'm debating buying it right away or not... I'm worried it's too "simple" of a combat sim. I'm kinda into complex economies, having wide arrays of ships to buy and pilot, etc..

you only get 1 ship but you can get a bunch of add-ons for it.
i played the demo for maybe an hour and couldn't really get into it.

("if you continue shooting we might arrest you") <--- lolmao

Runs like *** with FSAA on my X850XT (like 10fps)...and gfx are REALLY dated.

Highly repetive, planets look all the same etc. and simplistic, eg. the trade/updating of the ship.

But comes very close to the original C64 Elite....some might like it..some wont.
Official reviews are giving it good grades...but i dont like it that much.

ah damn, I ordered it the other day. what really sucks is the day after I ordered it GoGamer had darkstar One in one of its 48 hour madness sale - doh!

if I dont like the game at least I'm supporting the space sim genre!

flexy - you ever play independence war 2? If so I'd like ot know how you think it compares ot that game, as that is my favorite space sim so far.

nope...but i just read a review of IW 2...its old..but supposdely to be GOOD...i might give it a try 🙂

i got the game and installed it... and played it for about 5 minutes. I cant get over the poor support it has for joysticks. I cant use my hat switch! yes it's a big frickin deal for a space combat sim...

Funny runs fantastic on my rig...
A64X2 3800 2 gigs of ram and a 7900GT runs at 1600x1200 with everything maxed out.. maxed AA and AS..
reminds me ALOT of freelancer..
