Darksiders....Now this looks good!

Not the best video review, but you can watch more professional reviews from your normal game sites.
But it does explain the story plot with some great video of early gameplay.
*note* video does contain minor early game/plot spoilers.

Looks great to me for a game i've never heard of.

The game has been getting positive press and reviews. The game is done zelda style though I wonder how open it is.

I was gonna get this on tuesday because it looks awesome and I've heard it is good, but then I heard it is 15 hrs with no replayability or new game+.

looks great. i will wait for it to become cheap. or rental. but its on my i want to play list.

That's the only thing holding me back as well. I hear you can squeeze out 25hrs if you get 100% of everything, but then it's over. Not really worth it at that point.

Picked up the game (ps3) and inside there is a 16 digit code with a serial number and it says to go to Darksiders.com. PSN codes are 12 digit so there goes that idea. There is nothing on the site about it and the paper with the code doesn't even say what its for. People at the darksiders forum have no clue too. lol

didnt if u preordered the game is game with some kind of bonus>

maybes its that and u redeem it on the website to get you dlc code?

Yeah, I know....what's with that. Spent a few hours with it tonite on the PS3. Great game. BTW, you can DL the Harvester weapon though and that's come in real handy.

I've been playing the game for about a week and a half now so I've deffinitely had a chance to spend a decent amount of time with the game. I actually would have beaten the game days ago but I got incredibily sick and then went on a trip to Montana so that put a hinderance on my progression with the game.

Man, there is a lot to say about Darksiders so feel free to ask away if you have any questions, but the short of it is that it's a crazy fun game! Though it borrows mechanics and concepts from Zelda, Gow of War, and Devil May Cry it still manages to stand on its own as a game (which is key) and be incredibily fun. But I think the problem with some people might have to be their perspective (or lack thereof) going into the game with false expectations--they might be expecting Darksiders to be one of the games I listed above when it's not. Again, Darksiders manages to stand on it's own and feel mostly unique. One thing it most certainly is is an action/adventure game with heavy comic book influence, and I mean that in terms of asthetics, storytelling and overall design. I think it works really well for Darksiders because you can tell that Vigil set out to do this from the outset.

All the dungeons are exciting to play. If I recall correctly there are 4 or 5 of them and I'm currently on the last dungeon of the game, which I think the design is top notch. It's unique in concept, well thought out, makes you stop and think every once in a while and most importantly is fun to play.

If you want more info check my Twitter feed where I was Tweeting my thoughts on the game as I played it.

Oh, and riding Ruin (the horse) feels incredibly awesome.

Note: One last thing--the game doesnt really get going until about 1.5 hours into the game.

there is a link on the darksiders website called "mysterious code" or something like that, it explains the code, well not really but tells you that it will be useful eventually.

I'm reluctant to tell you how to spend your money, but because you're asking my opinion I'll give it--I would say it's worthy of a purchase. I dont know what contraints you have in order for a game to fall in the purchase catagory though.

For me, this is a game that seems to have replayability considering there are things to pick up that are out of the way. Plus, I would say that it's worth rewarding Vigil with your money by purchasing the game. Renting doesnt do much for them. 🙁

I'm going to agree with Warcrow. I may be biased as I have been waiting for this game for awhile but it is fantastically fun to play. Graphics are great combat is fun and I love the world/setting/story in the game. Well worth a purchase IMO but I generally buy games rather then rent.

Well the best value for me are things like CoD, where there's really 'infinite' replayability there with multiplayer. After that certain games with lots of unlockables or achievements like AC2 or Batman:AA and such are another pretty good value. If I can get at least 30 hours out of single player game then it's usually worth a purchase.

I played some more last night and, man, this game is a lot of fun. I suppose, for me, it's a nice change of pace from the Uncharteds, Assassin's Creeds and other sort of serious type games. Yes the dialog is admittantly cheesy at times, but I use to read and collect comics when I was younger and playing this game has kind of harkens back to that era for me.

I'm about to hit the 14 hour mark so it's got a decently size game in it. It's hard to tell how close I am to the end. I think I'll be there within the next 2-3 hours, but I'm not totally sure about that (could be longer).

The tearing people are talking about in regards to the graphics arnt as bad as some people are saying and I'm fairly sensitive to the issue in games. Vigil has stated that they're working on resolving the issue as I hear it mainly effects people with lower refresh rates on their TV.

To answer the Zelda comparison questions more directly (got some PM on this), comes from several aspects of the game. Oh, and some may consider this info to be slightly spoilerish I suppose so fair warning to you:

  • You eventually obtain a boomerage type weapon (it's more like the spinning blade from the movie Krull) that allows you to select multiple enemies (or switches) and throw it. It's an excellent assistant in combat and essential to dungeon puzzles.
  • You eventually obtain a hook shot type of device that pulls you to otherwise inaccessible parts of rooms and can be used in combat (example: pull shells off some enemies).
  • You eventually obtain a horse named Ruin. You can ride him and attack while doing so. He has a battle charge too. Love riding this guy.
  • The dungeons are laid out in a fashion that forces you to use your newly aquired weapon.
  • The world is layed out where parts are inaccessible until certain weapons/items are aquired.

That's all I can think of at the top of my head but that should most likely cover it.

Just beat the first big boss and its all good. I am enjoying the game and I get a nice Soul Reaver vibe even if there is quite a bit of Zelda in it. I'm playing on the hardest difficulty (apocalyptic) and its not so bad other than some mini boss type enemies (ie: The Jailer) killing me in one big hit..lol. Its all about that dodge move at the moment.

My only issue is just the button mapping for some things like that demon thing you turn into. I wasn't happy with the use the R2 button (ps3 version) for the panzer dragoon-ish sequence as I actually had to take a break every minute or so. I should have turned off the vibration feature. R1 would have been a better choice for me personally.

Not sure if I should farm souls or something to get some of the moves early in the game but I figure the game is structured in a way that you'll get plenty of souls from chests and stuff.

You're playing on Apocalyptic? Oh man, you're in for some pain 8-9 hours into the game. 🙂 Practice that dash move!
