Okay - asked this question a week ago, but I'm back.

Clean install two weeks ago. Fresh OS install, fully updated with drivers, etc.

Video files (excluding flash) are completely dark.

I tried going to the video overlay, and yes - I can up the brightness, but it washes out the colors.

I remember having this problem before and there was a legit fix. Any suggestions?

Sorry about late response - I'm using a 7600GT

I had this problem once before and it was solved by some download or setting...somethign that I remember like that.

Ive had this problem with a 7800gtx, it was because the card was underpowered.

Hrm - I'm using a 500 W power supply - should I bump it up? This card does not have a secondary rail plug on it :(

It's just an issue with some driver packages. Reset the color settings to defaults and it should fix it although I seem to recall a bit of a battle between the old and new CP's in this regard. I have not experienced this with the more recent releases (sporting the new-new CP).

This happened to me on a new build where I was using a 6600 GT. The movies in Windows Media player were dark. I updated the drivers for the video card and this fixed it.

SOLVED IT! So, you're all right - reset the forceware drivers, switched back to the lame nvidia control panel (the new one) and messed around with overlay in that.

It's all good.
