Spoilers and such forth so dont say I didnt warn ye

Anyway, finally finished this series for the first time yesterday. I put it down before bed with about 30 pages to go then I said wtf am I doing just read it to the end. Of course I am sure I was as curious as anyone to see what was at the top of that damn tower. I have mixed feelings about the end and how it all went. The only reedeming factor is that he at least had the horn with him this time which makes me somehow think that he will complete the journey this time. The only thing I wish is to see what really is at the top of the tower, is it a way to bring back all the beams even though they will regrow by themselves? Is the tower evil even though the beams seem to be 'good'? What of these people that created all these futuristic devices, now with the tet corporation will things go differently? Will this journey be different than the others and was his last journey's companions still dead or does it all start over again all the way? When he gets it right is gilead resetored and susan awaiting for him?

sighh you know just a lot of questions I will just have to answer myself! What did everyone else think

Obviously there's a ton of "history" in the dark tower world that you can't ever expect to know about.

I was pretty disappointed in the ending myself, as it wasn't really an ending. We need closure damnit!

favorite board game of all time.

the sound it makes when you're losing a battle is infuriating.

yeos, someone said every great story needs an ending whether good or bad or sad or in between somewhere, this cant be king's lord of the rings because this story doesnt end and so many questions!

It's a story about Roland. But if you noticed this time was different than the last. He had something he didn't have last time. Perhaps it was a horn. I cannot remember. Anyways, I enjoyed the ending. It was interesting. But I will never read the series again. Some endings make that impossible.

Typical King ending.. we all want definitive endings to his great stories, but non-disclosure is part of the mystique in many of them.

idk its more open ended than any of his books I have read in the past, the only part I am happy about is that it wont go on forever and so it seems with the horn in hand this time he will get it right.

Some of the in between books werent that good. The first 3 were all pretty solid but getting into wolves of the callah etc things idk just seemed like he was trying to make filler. I did enjoy the last two books and the last one especially. Even though the ending wasnt the answer to the question a lot of curiosities were answered in that last book.

I liked a lot about the series - book 2 was slow, but necessary. Gunslinger and Wizard and Glass were my favorites...great books. Wolves I didn't think needed as much as they put into it, but I still enjoyed it. I never liked the whole "plates" thing, but it wasn't deal-breaking or anything.

I've read the majority of King's books. Endings aren't his specialty in my opinion, and he does do a LOT of open ended stuff. Have you read Cell? Its really only a portion of the story, but its not the type of book that will have a sequel.

I was disappointed, but glad that he actually showed the inside of the tower. When I read the "first" ending, I was flipping out. I was not happy with that at all.

I thought the entire series was badly written, chaotic and overall a complete mess. I'll never understand why some people adore it.

That's not to say I'm not a fan of some King novels - The Stand was excellent - or don't read fantasy, sci-fi, horror or fiction in general. But the Dark Tower series to me is just dumb with crap being made up every few pages that's never explained or used again. I tend to believe that people think it's a great series because other people say it is.

Hmm yes there are many questions for you to answer yourself. With all the technology and things that run these worlds I was quite curious what sort of technological marvels were inside the tower or maybe some answers to who or how it was created but I suspected I would have to wonder this.

I am guessing the tower has multiple entrances or at least multiple appearances such as perhaps the second time instead of scenes of death from his life there will be scenes of the life he brought others etc. Yes, I was irate too when I thought he was ending it with him just going in the tower, lol screw that!

I thought pretty much the whole calla book could have been shortened to a handful of chapters. The 3 doors book was extremely slow and I really didnt like where it was going.

To tell the truth I disliked susannah and I hated eddie for the most part. Jake was my favorite along with Oy. Also his childhood friends cuthbert and alain were my favorites as well.

I thought it was pretty good. Like you, I wanted some more info on the "great old ones". Just seems like there needed to be more back story on Roland and his world. Knowing what happened to all of his friends, his dad etc. would have been cool. THe Crimson King kinda pissed me off too. He was MUCH to easily defeated.

I think him being mad was a major deterrant to his abilities. You also note that the gunslinger didnt even try to shoot him because he knew it would not work. I thought it worked out ok although you do get a feeling he wrote him in there just for this. I did like the story at the little cottage and the creepy dondelo thing with its tricks.

I am guessing rolands world might not even matter as much now, with the tet corporation and stuff I am guessing the positronic company might not even truly take over and a different future in the real world awaits. Also the crimson king I am not sure he can even be destroyed and his eyes will be out there forever.

Yea, I agree about the Crimson King...I picked out how they were going to beat him way too early.

I actually liked the ending. I felt like it was the only thing appropriate. Roland is defined by his struggle. An end to the struggle during the loop we saw (even death) would not have been fitting at all. He can still do it better.

I didn't particularly like the way it ended either. The last three books felt like he was just writing for the sole purpose of finishing the series so that he could stop worrying about it.

The ending wasn't that bad, but the pre-ending - that is, the majority of books 6 and 7 - was awful. I *hate* the rushed feeling, especially when you damn near wasted a whole book with some rather non-plot-forwarding events (Wolves of Calla.)

Got half way through the last book and just stopped for some reason. Haven't picked it up in a few years. Probably won't for a at least another considering I've got Erikson's Malazan series to hold me over.
