The plan is to start with the feature film, and then create a bridge to the second feature with a season of TV episodes. That means the feature cast—and the big star who’ll play Deschain—also has to appear in the TV series before returning to the second film. After that sequel is done, the TV series picks up again, this time focusing on Deschain as a young gunslinger. Those storylines will be informed by a prequel comic book series that King was heavily involved in plotting. The third film would pick up the mature Deshain as he completes his journey. They will benefit from being able to use the same sets cast and crew for the movie and TV, which could help contain costs on what will be a financially ambitious undertaking.

Three movies, with a simultaneous television series to bridge the gaps, with the same actors. Directed by Ron Howard.

Mixed feelings on this one. It has to be epic, or else it will suck. I always thought an anime series *might* be able to do the Dark Tower world justice, but maybe they can do it in live action.

Could be good but don't have high hopes. Trying to do prequels and tie-ins and then switching between TV and movie, I just don't see it turning out well.

My guess, the first movie bombs, or maybe the TV episodes will causing them to do one or the other (as in they'll scrap the TV bits and maybe just do an extra movie, or they'll just move to a TV series if the movie bombs).

I recently bought all seven novels because 1) I don't read much but I want to 2) I know I like Stephen King 3) It's supposed to be awesome.

Currently reading Under the Dome, can't wait to start on the Dark Tower series.

Um...yeah...not sure where I stand on this. I mentioned in another thread it would be cool to see this made into a movie, but it's one of those things that just has so damn much going on that I think it will be hard to translate to a movie, even with the TV series.

And the ending just pissed me off too.

It's very ambitious, and given how cancel-happy tv networks are these days I'd be (pleasantly) shocked if they pull this off to completion.

I wasn't crazy how the series ended though so I'd actually prefer if they reimagined the ending.

No matter where you are in Under the Dome, it's best to stop reading right now. Seriously. It only gets worse. I'd rather watch Dreamcatcher than reread that book..

I'm cautiously optomistic. Just getting to see The Drawing of the Three and Wastelands, (if done well) would be worth it.

Oh man...I hope this turns out good. I loved the Dark Tower series. The Drawing of the Three was best.

The ending of the series leaves something to be desired though.

Our only hope is the ending gnaws at SK so long that he is forced to release anothe DT book.

In an interview in March 2009, King stated, describing an idea for a new short story he recently had: "And then I thought, 'Well, why don't I find three more like this and do a book that would be almost like modern fairy tales?' Then this thing started to add on bits and pieces so I guess it will be a novel." According to King, the idea is a new Dark Tower novel. King said, regarding the Dark Tower series, "It's not really done yet. Those seven books are really sections of one long über-novel."[5]
Stephen King confirmed this during his TimesTalk event at The TimesCenter in New York City on November 10, 2009, and the next day King's official site posted the information that King will begin working on this novel in about eight months, with a tentative title being The Wind Through the Keyhole.[6] King noted that this novel should be set between the fourth and the fifth books of the series.

I was already satisfied with the series.

King is notoriously known for having difficulty on how to end a story. Knowing that it was easier to deal with the given ending.

I read the 4th book when it first came out, then left the series during the wait between 4 and 5. I kind of picked up Wolves after the series was done, but didn't get into it :(

I could possible see this working, if, instead of doing a tv series (which is more prone to cancellation if the ratings bomb), they instead did a mini-series type thing in between the movies. Something like Band of Brothers did, where you have a 1 to 2 hour episode every so often, to keep the interest up between movies.

Hey, at least it's not George Lucas directing it........then we'd have to wait 10 years between movies! :rolleyes:

That's what I was thinking... Read the first in '91, and just started "Song of Sussanah". I guess it's not all my fault. There was a big pause in the series. :)

I absolutely loved 2 and 3 though.
