Dark Souls porting problems?

How bad were the framerate issues on the console? Never played it, but I wanted to pick this up for the PC.

From the eurogamer article, the devs pretty much admitted that they won't be fixing those framerate issues and that they just want to get the port done quickly to make the August 31 release.

I'd rather have a nicely optimized port than a rushed release, but I do appreciate their honesty on the matter.

From Software struggling to make the PC version is understandable, seeing as they have pretty much no experience developing for PC.

However, this article states the contrary: http://www.rpgfan.com/news/2012/1549.html

"Performance-wise, the game ran smoothly in the demo footage. While the game will not offer high resolution textures, it will offer a full range of scalable settings exclusive to the PC version. Additionally, I was flat-out promised that Blighttown will run as smoothly as the rest of the game."

So who knows. Personally, as long as the game runs smoothly, looks good, and doesn't have any bugs, I will play it.

The frame rates were only terrible in blighttown: when you were literally crawling along in a poisonous swamp with 5 FPS it's really, really annoying. Did I mention there were poison dart blowing assholes that will give you a poison that lasts for about 5 whole minutes without any sort of resistance? So moving along at 5 FPS is really annoying in those parts.

Rest of the time the only FPS slowdown happens is when there's massive on-screen effects, like a dragon's breath or hydra splashes.

The part that bothers me is why do devs to this day release games that cause those kind of issues (framerates) on consoles....

If this is a good port and doesn't have any massive bugs I might play it on PC. Gave it a pass on the console.

I'm kind of curious about the lack of high resolution textures. Obviously, I don't have insight into their development for the console version, but I assume they probably developed larger textures and scaled them down? Although, the fact that it seems like they're taking this PC version seriously makes me wonder if they didn't develop their art assets that way.
