Can someone confirm if the DSfix works with the Games For Windows Live version? Every tutorial i've seen says to unzip the fix into:

Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Dark Souls Prepare to Die Edition\DATA

My string looks closer to this

Program Files (x86)\\Namco Bandai Games\Dark Souls

thats were the .exe is but I can't access the Data folder, in fact, its not a DATA folder, it appears to be DATA .exe

Thanks

I'm pretty sure they only sell it on steam right? The steam version has GFWL on it as well so there aren't different versions, I think you're just looking in the wrong place.

Doesn't the retail just offer a Steam code though? Sounds like the OP is using a pirated version, as I believe the game only installed via Steam.

From looking at what other people have said online, the physical box version of Dark Souls didn't necessarily come with a Steam key and it's possible that OP has the physical version.

But yeah, whether you buy the game on Steam or in a box, it uses GFWL either way. The program files should be the same, there will just be a different path to get there. DSFix should work fine.

Ok..Guys thanks for the confirmation.

I bought a copy on Amazon cause I wanted the booklet and all the other goodies.....I've actually had it for a year, just getting around to playing it..It says "Games for Windows Live" on the box and no mention of steam so its probably a couple years old??

It launches through GFWL and only plays in offline mode which I assume is because GFWL is done for? Anyways, I'm excited to finally get around to playing it.

Does anyone have anytips on the best class for a noob to start with? I got into the character creation screen this morning but didn't have time to create one....

Thanks again

Not quite; GFWL will shut down in two months, on July 1st. Until then, you should be able to play in online mode.

Not that it matters I guess, unless you want to use the online features (invading other people's games, etc).

Must be something in my settings then cause I couldn't get it to launch online but I am logged in with GFWL account....Like you say though, I dont care, in fact, I'm glad causee I don't want to get invaded/teleported or whatever they do....

If you're signed in to GFWL online, the game is always online. If you aren't getting a notification that you're starting in offline mode, you're online. The extent of the online mode in Dark Souls is summoning, invading, and messages on the ground left by other players. Sadly, they really borked the server system in DS though, so most of that stuff is limited anyway. And with DS2 having just released, I expect a lot of people have moved on.
