Listening to the song...probably the most butchered cover since Black Eyed Peas crapped all over Dick Dale's surf song.

wtf is this crap? Is this supposed to be a bad joke? How do you remake a concept albumn anyways? You cant remake that albumn and expect it to be good. These guys just proved this with that crap remake of Money. Richard Wright has to be rolling in his grave!

Dream Theater covered the full albums far and away much much much much better. I enjoy listening to DT's DSotM cover, just amazing.
Then again, that is a cover.

This is a remake.
A remake that is a complete travesty to what is known as music.
But... at the same time, I can find myself strangely enjoying this if in the right mood. Not if I want to hear the amazingness that is DSotM, but if I want to hear something... that just cannot be described.

I most certainly hope this album is available free and legally. If there has been a price tag set that is higher than $0.01, TFL will get NOTHING from me. Wait, actually... doesn't matter, TFL will get NOTHING from me, even if free, because I wouldn't be giving anything to them, see? Well, would be giving them a listen, but FREE!
I would not pay for what I just heard. I would listen, without paying.

I disagree. Any 3rd rate cover band can do a Pink Floyd cover. It's easy once it's already been done. Doing something different with the song is harder, and more artistically noble. I wasn't crazy about the Flaming Lips cover, but I'm not crazy about the song anyway. I'd rather hear butchered originality than somebody playing the CD I've heard for the last 30 years.

I love some Henry Rollins, but I just don't picture him doing Floyd. Who knows, it might be good.

How can you disagree? If we are just discussing "remakes" then the DT covers don't even qualify. They were simply covering the song. But the quality in the performance is not even debatable. Now if DT were to try and remake the song, change it up a bit, bring new life to it, who knows what would come of it. It might be just as terrible as the flaming lips version.

Because a cover is a cover. Who cares about covers? I don't... Doing something different with the material is what separates the artists from the hacks. I could go out tonight and hear numerous competent covers from bands that'll never be anything. If I want to hear the CD, I'll listen to the CD. That's been polished up in the studio, and it's the best THAT version will ever be. I'd rather hear someone take risks, and perhaps fall flat. At least they tried....

When it comes to a remake like this sometimes it is better left alone. It reminds me of a quote that can be applied to this situation. Paraphrased it said "A fool is best to be thought of as a fool than to open his mouth to confirm it."

In this case the flaming lips should have not confirmed just how terrible they can make a Pink Floyd song sound.

That has got to be one of the worst pieces of shit that I have ever heard of. I wish they would leave Pink Floyd alone. I thought my speakers crapped out on me, but no, it was the song...............
Hey flaming lips, I've got an idea: remake some Lady GaGa and just leave Pink Floyd to us old timers.
