As the subtitle says. Picked this up in the bargain bin at a fair yesterday for $10. The graphics and sound are great, and it supports wide-screen very well and runs smoothly with all settings cranked on my 7600GT.

But the first few scenes were entirely scripted (I just arrived at Stonehelm and went through the "shoot the demon with the Ballista" scene). Does it open up at all later, or is it more jumping from one scripted scenario to another scripted scenario?

It's pretty linear, but most of it is not like the ballista thing. It's basically an FPS with magic instead of guns. I enjoyed it quite a bit and never understood the less than average reviews it received.

Its definitely worth playing through, as you said its got great eye-candy and is an enjoyable game. Its just too short imo. It has cut scenes but its not really scripted, it plays more like an FPS where you're "funneled" through but you have free movement within the confines of the overall funnel design.

Anyways, if anything I wish it were longer. There is *some* replayability as you can vary the light RPG elements and choose different class archetypes and strategies accordingly.

Cool, thanks for the feedback. I was hoping it was more like an RPG with combat, rather than an FPS with swords and spells. But yeah, should be worth playing through. Can't lose more than $10 anyway :).

Its a pretty fun game. The enemy AI is pretty fun. It is pretty linear though. There's a few different endings and story branches, but nothing major. I found the narrative enjoyable. I thought the voice acting was good and some of the choices you can make are neat with the character outcomes. The different kinds of characters you can play actually effect the playstyle that you can use quite a bit.

I liked it a lot. While it didn't really deviate a ton from the traditional FPS setup, it offered a lot of cool stuff for the single player campaign. My main complaint was that it had no co-op mode...would have been a great game to play though with a friend.

I tried to like the multiplayer component. But in addition to sucking at it, I find it overly complicated and not particularly fun.

Actually, I took the time to play though this a few times which is way more then I can say for most games I own.

Good game. The combat is pretty well done. The only thing is the kick is way overpowered, making the other abilities somewhat useless, so just don't overuse it.

I liked it, but it was really hard. I did play on the hardest difficulty though.....

Things get interesting later on?.

...Not really. The hard part I mean. You just have to learn to *block*.

I got into it and when the game caused trouble with SecureROM or whatever the hell it has I had to uninstall it.

Never went back. The gameplay just wasnt interesting enough to keep me playing.
Chasing the ghoul through the city was cool for about 3 minutes, then it got tedious.

The game isn't to hard if you use the cheating kick...the main trouble is when you get to tired to kick!

Learn the heal spell though, that makes things pretty easy.

How in the hell did that section take you *longer* than three minutes? Did you have a stroke and forget how to use a mouse?

I preordered the game before it came out because I thought the demo was great. When the game finally came out, it was riddled with bugs. I and numerous others couldn't even get the game to run. By the time it was finally patched enough to run, I had lost interest. I haven't even messed with it since. I'll have to put it back on my list.

I wish that game could be offered as a gift so that I could play it beyond what I saw from the Demo, but right now I have other priorities, I might consider buying it some time this summer though, looks like a nice game.

I banged away on it for awhile last night, and it definitely is fun. Pretty hard too, so far, but then I haven't learned much in the way of spells or martial skills yet. Very pretty, and the soundscape is great. One nice thing about scripted games is that the developer can do more with ambience. I liked walking into the kitchen of a tavern in Stonehelm and having the pot wench yell at me to get out :).
