Dark Messiah, cant run the demo?!

I downloaded the demo from steam and when I try to run it I get this error

"A required security module cannot be activated.
This program cannot be executed (5017)."

which... doesnt tell me a thing

anyone else having the same problems?

at least you get an error. mine just won't do anything at all when i double click the icon...

This game has some serious issues.

I bought the retail game and I can't even get it to run... at all. Since you have to activate it on Steam, I can't even sell it. I should have just threw $49.99 out the window- at least I would have got some satisfaction out of it.

I played the demo when it came out this summer and it ran fine. For the hell of it, I installed the demo again, and it won't even start either.

what happens?
if it just doesn't launch, it might be that Windows update thats causing it. I forget which one, its like KB497922 or something like that. There's a patch for it from MS too. I think i saw that on one of the BF2142 threads.
