Dark Messiah - Best Game Ever??

Well, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic recently just opened the public beta multiplayer, and I have never played a game that had such an awesome fighting mechanic. It like revived the moments I had when I first played CS, Starcraft, etc..the classes are all fun to play, and I am just rocking with the Priestess. Who here agrees with me??

And for those who don't have the open beta, well its free now, and you can get it here. You may have to register though.

Here's a screenshot of what you can do in the game 🙂 And it's not just heads you can chop off lol

Hmm, I downloaded a demo for this a few weeks back (1.5GB). Not sure if it's the same one you're referring to or if this is a newer demo. In any case when I tried to run the game it froze my computer every time (no doubt since I'm running Vista x64 with immature drivers 😛). Maybe I should give it a shot again...

I'm looking forward to the game. It looks good and I'm a fan of Arx Fatalis (the devs previous game) so I expect a fine game.

The combat system, considering it is for a first-person-shooter, is very good indeed, perhaps the best in that category (not that I've seen other FPS's around with a combat system at all though). But technically speaking, as long as the first-person view is concerned in a 3-D game, I believe that the very best combat system you'll find it that of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

But if we take out the combat system for an argument, I still think that, after playing the Demo, Dark Messiah is the very best first-person-shooter to be released since Half-Life 2. Games like Quake IV, Doom 3 and Prey never really caught my attention to a point I wanted to keep those games. Well I still own Doom 3, but it's not even taken up dust anymore, it's actually inside a box with all of my "dead games", and I have many of those.

Dark Messiah is refreshing. Oh, there's nothing quite innovative or revolutionary, but seeing a good game, in a modified Source Engine, set in such a fantasy world is more than welcome. And that camera movement when the character is moving around, reminds of the Turok series, where I first saw such camera behaviors, and that alone felt authetic for character movements, more immersive.

Uh... is the open beta not open or something? When I got to gamespot and click on the button (I'm signed in) I just get redirected to the same page...

You can just try the Demo gorcorps. I believe you can play in Multi-Player with the Demo, but please don't quote me on this, I haven't tried myself, I just keep playing Off-Line since I got it (two days ago). If there's no Multi-Player you can at least see what it's all about in the small single-player portion that's given.

i wasnt excited w/ the demo AT ALL.

Maybe it was just announced wrongly, as an "RPG"....but the truth is DMMM is really nothing more than (as you said right) a 1st person shooter, in a medieval setting.

People rave about the physics...physics we have with the source-engine (Hl2) for YEARS already...i wonder if people lived behind a rock or something. I dont say that DMMM looks bad, source engine is qute good, so, seen, from the gfx-perspective i dont complain

But the demo was boring because i EXPECTED a RPG based on the source-engine, and, in all honesty if i do a first-person shooter i THINK that playing with futuristic weapons and gadgets (like HL2, D3 etc.) is MORE fun than a bow or a sword ?

DMMM *seems* very focused on fighting.

Fighting scenes etc. all very reminded me of the "thief" series...a long while back.

HOWEVER - the demo was VERY,VERY short...and i still might give this game a try.

I miss the old Might and Magic classics like M&M 6,7,8,9,wish they would make a Might and Magic 10,however I will be buying Dark Messiah of Might and Magic at some point, probably after Gothic 3 and Hellgate:London 🙂.
