Windows media player on one machine is too dark to watch unless I manually increase the brightness. I tried increasing the gamma on the desktop. This seems to have no effect on the media player.
 
You need to adjust 'overlay' color controls. You could also try changing to the higher quality renderer in WMP. Tools->Options->Performance->Advanced->Use high quality mode.
