Dark circles under my eyes

I have an unsightly genetic trait. I always have a tired look to my eyes, because of dark circles. Some days are worse than others.

I just did some research on how to get rid of these, and besides using weird folklore remedies that involve applying cold food products to my eyelids, or wearing makeup, I'm stumped.

Does anyone else have this problem, and have found a solution?

My eyes! They're... muffins!

update:
Okay, I picked up some Loreal Eye Cream and some Preparation-H cooling gel (with Aloe and Vitamin E!). I put on the H when I got home, and went completely blind. Okay kidding, but it did numb the skin under my eyes for awhile. I wasn't impressed with the Loreal product, I guess I should have gone with the Neutragena copper cream, but it looked like more of a skin fimer than a dark circles remover.

I also made an appointment for a 20min tan tomorrow night. Got a copuon for 3 sessions, will go every other day. Hopefully in a few weeks I'll be a little more handsome. ;)

There's no solution to this. Those be the breaks.

Gotta use an over the counter concealer.

Hmm well if you get circles under your eyes when you arent tired, then perhaps never sleeping will cause the circles to disappear! :D

Tried that. I just get bloodshot eyes along with the dark circles, which makes me even creepier looking. :(

Not much you can do. Me and my fiancee both have them, and there isnt much that helps.

Preparation H (I know this sounds bad) will reduce the swelling, which may in turn reduce the darkness. It's used by Hollywood all the time.

Eat loads of food so you get really fat and your face gets all soft and fat and red :D :D
On a serious note, try to stop sitting @ comp or watch tv for 1-2 days see if that helps

I know that works for puffiness, but will that really work for the darkness?

Go to a tanning bed. Seriously. Tan regularly. You'll get skin cancer, but think of how well the dark spots will blend until then!

Beats me. That's why I said "may." On the other hand, swelling and darkness sometimes go hand in hand.

Question:
How do I get rid of bags under my eyes?

Get more sleep

-Bags are sometimes caused by water retention, if you're retaining water your problem may only be temporary and will clear on its own.

-Sleep on your back. Apparently this keeps water from pooling up under your eyes overnight.

-Use an anti-puffiness cream or serum, there are plenty out there. Dab it very gently under your eyes and pick a formula that can be worn alone or under makeup. I find that those containing chamomille work well. I have sensitive and oily skin and it works well for me when I need to use it. Overnight I use Neutrogena Active Copper cream, works well and I found that I rarely wake up with bags anymore.

-Stay clear of things that irritate allergies or the eyes in general (i.e., cigarette smoke)

-Bags that are hereditary or are the result of fat deposits building up will likely require surgery to permanently remove them.

A couple of "home remedy" type things I found too:

Raw potato slices will help tighten baggy, puffy eyes. All you need is a potato and a knife or slicer!

To Make:

1. Slice 1/4 potato to fit over your eyes.

2. Cut 2 slices or, if you prefer, 5 to 10 very thin slices, several for each eye. Either method works.

To Use:

1. Spritz eye area with water.

2. Lying down, place the potato slices on your eyelids and leave in place for at least 10 minutes for best results.

Also, you can place a couple of spoons (metal) in your freezer overnight. While lying down, rest the cold spoons on your eyes for 10-20 minutes. According to the site I found this on, the condition should improve after 14 consecutive days of use. My personal opinion is that overnight in the fridge is a better choice or a cold compress of some sort. I don't know if anyone out there has ever had the experience of pulling something frozen off of skin-but it HURTS and can tear skin off.

There are countless ways to decrease or diminish eye baggage. These are just a few suggestions. Hope they help.
