I've read quite a few reviews, the firingsquad one was good too. However I'm trying to get a players perspective. I can ony really justify one MMORPG, so i need to be sure it will hold some lasting appeal

got a friend who is a die hard everquest junkie.. he was saying he tried DAoC and it was "okay" but there was not much to do in the game, or something to that effect. he cancelled it and stuck with just everquest

while i have never played these types of games, I do know that if I was wanting to try one, I would try DAoC first because its newer, you dont have these crazy dudes who've been playing the game for years like everquest, you start on a more level playing field. like me, i wanted to put a DC client on my linux box and chose to try eccp since it was smallest and newest from what i could tell so I would actually make the smallest of difference in actual stats

Realm Combat is pretty broken right now, so if that's the big draw for you, you're in for an unpleasant surprise.

I love the game, but Heraclitus is right in that it needs work. There are some class/realm balance issues to work out, though the game is certainly playable. Make sure you visit some of the fan websites if you decide to get the game since the manual and official website are horribly outdated and incomplete.

Hmm, sound like it might be worth buying it as a 'leap of faith' and then hoping they get all the bugs ironed out.

My main PC is currently dead, would it run ok on a P3 933, 384 megs ram and a 32 meg geforce 2 MX?

That should be okay, Damocles, in that it's above the minimum specs, but the game is a resource hog (not to mention it has -- or maybe had? -- a big memory hole) and will certainly use anything you can give it. It works very well -- but not flawlessly -- on my Athlon 1.2/512mb/GeForce3 set-up, though big Realm battles cause terrible lag.

I really do think you should wait another month or two, but if you're really enthusiastic about getting it now, here's a wee bit of advice: stick to Albion or Midgard. Hibernia is very broken, and will cause you much grief and frustration (after the first 15 levels, at least).

If you have any other questions, just let me know by PM. I'm pretty familiar with it (I played it a lot for the first six weeks) and can point you in the right directions.

Do not buy DAoC.

I've been playing EQ for more than two years. You would think it should be better than a two year old game but it's not.

I played DAoC for about a week, got bored with it and went back to EQ.

Honestly buy EverQuest it's still the best MMORPG out there. There's nothing "wrong" with it and the graphics are better than ever with shadows of luclin. DAoC is boring.
