Dark Age of Camelot - Video Problems/System Freeze

I'm running Dark Age of Camelot (DAoC) on my new system, but experiencing severe problems... I'm thinking it's probably my crap old video card 🙁

It runs fine w/o lag usually, even on a 56k modem, but occasionally (and especially in Tir Na Nog & other highly populated areas) the comp will freeze completely, and I can't reboot or even turn off my comp without powering off the P/S.

The video card I'm using is a 16MB 3DFx Banshee --- can't wait to swap it out next week for a new Geforce 😀. Currently I need to oc it to 125Mhz (100Mhz normal) in order for the game to run smoothly.

When I turn off all video acceleration the game chunks and is unplayable 🙁 I haven't seen any threads on the DAoC forums about this problem, which is why i'm thinking it's just the vid card (they "require" a 32MB card, at least Voodoo3 speed).

Help!

Here's my setup (don't laugh, I'm replacing parts piece by piece when I can afford it):

Athlon XP 1600+ CPU (non-oc'ed)
Alpha 8045 HS + YS-tech fan
512 MB Crucial 2.5 unbuffered PC2100 DDR RAM
Epox 8KHA+ mobo (running at 133 FSB)
3dFX Banshee 16MB video card
4GB IBM ATA-33 hard drive
onboard AC97 sound
Adaptec 4920U2W Ultra2 SCSI adaptor
Plextor Ultraplex 32x UltraSCSI CD drive
Sony 4x/12x SCSI CDR drive
Antec 1040 case w/ 2 stock fans + 2 Ys-Tech fans

That would be a video problem. It is usually laggy in the large cities not matter what setup you have. Hopefully something they can remedy with the $$ that they are going to be taking from us. 😀 I would suggest at least a GF2 card with 64mb DDR memory. Never go for the bare minimum that a gaming manufacturer suggests. That's just my opinion. A good GF2 card as I suggested would cost you around $130 most places. Good Luck!

I tried to play DAoC on a box with a Vodoo III in it and experienced the exact same problem you have. The screen locks and there is no way to recover.
I just got a new box, and it has a Geforce 2 ti 64mb in it. Those freezes dont happen anymore.
If you really want to play Camelot, you are going to have to spring for a new video card. The rest of your system is real nice, so don't limit yourself with an old 16mb card. It just wont cut it anymore, even if they say it might.
