So getting rid of hard drives is for me the most annoying aspect of them. Drives are cheap, so buying them, who cares-but trying to makes sure no persnal data can be recovered? A pain.

Anyway I'm just kind of wondering-is DBAN good enough without physically destroying the drive? If so, what settings should be used? If not, what do you have to do to the drive to wreck it?

I feel like drives should come with some self destruct mode.

For that matter, how do the above questions apply to SSDs? Seems like in both mechanical and flash drives, you could also have the issue where part of the drive could still be read and contain data, yet no longer be "seen" by the OS, making DBAN ineffective at least for that area.
