Danny Glover

Damn..MSNBC is tearing him a new one.

I never watch MSNBC and I am pissed off that I am watching it now.....crappy ass network......Not because they are criticizing Glover, but becasue they are doing so impartially.

Fox News actually looks good right now

Is that a crime?

A thought crime. From what I understand MCI fired Glover after MSNBC viewers called in. Kind of funny to see a company which makes money on people speaking fire someone over excercising his freedom of speech.

Would you hire someone that would make you lose profits? It's their freedom to chose what they want to do just as it is his to say what he wants to. If you don't like it, switch to AT&T. 🙂

I dont agree with what he has to say, however, being an American, it is his right.

Its just like the Dixie Chicks thing. They should be able to say whatever they want without career suicide, no matter how nice that really sounds.

I most certainly will not be signing up for MCI. If they had Charlton Heston selling their product, I would not have a problem, as long as he wasn't politicizing in the actual advertisement. They are selling phone service, not politics. They chose to enter the politics business.

I respectfully disagree. I feel that you should be able to use your freedom of speech but you should have to face the consequences, as well.

I guess North Korea has freedom of speech too. You are free to speak there too, if you are willing to face the consequences.

Well if a company is selling it services, it doesn't want to advertise with someone who will create a ruckus. When they hired him, I sure that him being a popular actor had something to do with it. They hired the image he portrayed. Now that there is contraversy surrounding his image to some people, it's not what they intended. Doesn't make it 100% right, but I can't blame MCI.

Once again, freedom of speech protects you from any recourses from the government, not private businesses. That's the difference here.

Sure you can. They can't have it both ways. By pandering to the right wing and firing Glover for his political views, they have changed their image from just a phone company to a right-wing pandering phone company. Just like they have a right to fire glover for his views, their customers have a right to fire them for their views.

Thanks, KK.

I thought it was implied that "the consequences" really didn't include corporal punishment since we were talking about the Dixie Chicks' case, but some people need things spelled out for them.
