Dangerous Temp?

Hey, I just finished building my frist SFF and I am really liking it. However thanks to one of my friends I have gotten slighly nerotic about my temp. I have been checking after I have been gaming and its peaked at about 57 Deg. It doesnt drop much when I'm not gaming. Ushually Idle around 48-49. I was just wondering if this is near dangerouse temp? If I need to work on it, melting cables and such. Its a 3200+ 64 Athlon in the Soltek 3801A-300. Any opinions would be very appreciated. Thanks. Assuming that those numbers are in Celsius...

If that's your CPU core temp, then it's OK.

If that's your case ambient temp, then you are in trouble.

Hmm.. Also built my first SFF lately and my case ambient was abou 103-107 degrees (farenheit, I don't remember the celcius at the moment).. I'm assuming this is bad?

That would be around 40 degrees (our body temperature is 38.6C/98.8F, so you can use that for a rough reference if you don't want to do the conversion).

To answer your question: You want to check your CPU core temps to make sure it's not going above 70C under load. If it isn't, then you are OK. I would strive to keep the CPU core temp as low as possible.

One of the tricks is to have an SFF case that has a ducted CPU vent. I'm using the Lite-On BK202B microATX case which has a ducted CPU vent, allowing the CPU fan to draw in cool air directly from outside the case. My CPU core temps never rise above 55C under load.
