okay, so my computer wa acting weird and not booting up, and i decided to reinstall windows (not reformat)

i booted from cd, and started to install windows. when it got to the "copy files" part, 15 or so files where not able to be copied. i couldnt do anything so i clicked skip

not its in that window istall part. it trys to install msdtmct.dll or somehting like that, but it cant. i can browse my computer, and i found the file on ym cd but it still cant copy. i put the file on my hardrive and even a floppy, but no go. any help?

on the side note, in the windwos install process, i discovered instresting things. please keep in mind i havent even finished reinstalling windows yet! okay, when i was trying to figure out how to correct the probrem, i click the file and clicked properies. for fun, i told it to run using firefox. amazingly, IT DID!! (cant surf online, network isnt installed or soemthin)

now i figured otu i can even run games. for example in command and conquer generals, go to the folder in firefox, click on generals.exe, and tell it to dl to the hold and replace the old one. when its done in the downlaod manager, click run. i can run games without installig windows! REALLY REALLY slow, proly the grphics card not running yet.

anywho, back to the probrem. any help?

edit: i posted in offtopic? holy crap, im sleepy today. ah well, ill post in the correct forum then

Check your RAM, you most likely have a bad stick.

I was installing XP on my uncle's comp the other day, and it kept saying it couldnt read the files, etc... I just used the disk the day before, and is in perfect condition. I switch dvd-drives, still can't read the files... wtf, something is fubar.

Memtest86+ bad stick of ram.

Find the bad module, take it out, finish installing, everything good now

maybe the cd is dirty and needs to be cleaned?

or possibly you have a HDD issue starting (bad sectors).

or faulty ram.
