Dang Summer Months

I got home yesterday and all of my computers were shut off! I have 3 in the garage and 2 in the house. Well the ones in the garage I can do nothing about because that garage starts getting hot and once my systems get to a certain temp, they shut off. I guess for the ones in the house I will have to run the AC a little more during the day because those are heating up also. It really sucks! If I had the extra money I would build a server room in the garage with an AC, but that aint gonna happen. 😉 I guess I am just going to have to deal with it. I am going to try and underclock the garage systems to hopefully make them run cooler. My main system though I am torn about, it is giving me 2:10 average WU and on a normal day my load temp is 50c. I guess if it keeps up I will have to pull back on that one and kill my production. DANG SUMMER!!!!

Thanks, just wanted to vent!

Yea, heat sucks. I had to downclock my AXP 1700+ from 2400+ to 2000+ because of the heat / instability issues (running default at 1700+ right now because I just installed the OS and didn't want any chance of corruption during that or while I'm working on a few major projects right now). I should be able to clock back up once 1) I get my projects done, and 2) the outside temperature reaches 90F and my parents decide it's time to close the windows and turn on the A/C. :frown:

My main PC has been randomly locking up lately, and the only thing I could determine the cause was heat, although it's in a lower part of the house which stays cooler. But it is dusty, and the heatsink was filthy. So I pulled it out, all the cards, all the mem, cleaned it all, new thermal paste, even took apart the cpu heatsink/fan and the vid card heat sink/fan, and cleaned them out.

Put it all back together, and it's running much better, no lockups so far in the last 24 hours. Plus it's running about 8 to 10 degrees cooler. 🙂

Just remember, heat kills......

😉

Sometimes it's just a matter of air movement.

If you move enough 80F air past your hot components they will be cooled by it.
See what your temps are when you remove the side from your case.
Point a box fan at your computers.
Sometimes you don't have to spend a lot of money to fix these problems, just get that air moving! 😉

Well I have another case that I am going to try out. I was going to mod it first, but I need to get this fixed. I will probably do the fan thing first for a while.

Hehe, reminds me of pictures of Poof's herd, along with the box fans pointing at the open sides of some of them.

May not look pretty, but it works! 🙂

I ran all of the computers in the attic at 150 degrees last year fully overclocked. Just turn off all the alarms in the BIOS and they run fine.

I checked the CPU temps and they were at 90c and both Intel and AMD's ran fine.

Thank you Wiz.

The only failures I have ever had was because of a physical problem, CPU Heatsink fans freezing up (especially golden Orbs, stay far away from them). Also had a fan in a Power supply die, changed out the fan and the Power supply was OK, the thermal protection did it's job.

Hey you guys can set up at my house for a week.... 🙂

We are supposed to be in the low 40"s tonight and be cold and nasty for the next 4 days.....😀:|

I have a feeling we aren't going to have to worry about heat for quite awhile in our part of the world, Soggy. 🙁

It takes 7 friggin months just to get back to the 60's around here..................

Yeah, supposed to be 60-65F here too the next several days(& a little wet). Had frost warnings a couple days ago.

So far so good. I have a big fan blowing on the 3 in the garage, seems to have helped. We were in the 90's today so just that extra bit of airflow seems to help.
