After 3 or 4 plants closed last year, IP (Int'l. Paper) mill is following suit. This is the bread and butter of our community and some neighboring city. I'm guessing ours will turn into a ghost town in 6 months. Close to 650 families will be affected directly and prolly thousands more, indirectly, when they close 6 mos. from now.

It really sux BIG TIME! I'm praying for US

It's really too bad that no one is bringing new manufacturing to areas like yours -- considering how automated many factories are now you'd think that higher U.S. wages would have very little effect on the cost of at least some items like electronics. If the cost of a made-in-the USA coffeemaker was $22 instead of $21 you'd think there would be enough buyers to make it worthwhile.

I hope your officials can convince some new plant, or warehouse, or call center to use your area. It's sad for people to have to leave their homes and community to (maybe) find decent jobs.

Its only going to get worse everywhere else.. Why would any company pay fat lazy unionized American labor to do the same work cheap mexicans, south americans, or any other 3rd world country can do for a fraction of the cost. :(

Go NAFTA.. :(

Apply for an H-1B and pretend you're an immigrant and you can get an IT job easily. :disgust:

Done that! In fact, my wife and I are just waiting for an interview sched for Citizenship!

Honestly, I'm worried about our community and some of our friends who are natives here. Its a quiet town really, people are nice and friendly. The only thing i hate are the people running the place. They always promote "It's a Certified Retirement City", or whatever you call it. they filter the type of business they want to put here. so, if its not tourist- related (i.e., restaurants, hotels, etc.), they prolly won't give a rats ass about your business. That's also the reason why their children decides to work some place else. no opportunity, plain and simple.

my family can move/transfer right away since we don't have any family or relatives that we're gonna leave behind. My wife is a nurse, she has the privilege to work wherever and whenever she wants to. We just feel like its unfair to our kids if ever we decided to move because they already have friends here and its gonna be a big adjustment to them just in case.

Anyway, i'm not blaming anybody. maybe, its just bound to happen sooner than later.
