I have a linksys wireless g print server and router. I hooked up the server by cable to the router, powered everything up, and popped in the install disk. Well, it the print server does not come up as found by the install software. The print server and router seem to see each other as indicated by the lights on each, but there seems to be nothing doing otherwise. Linksys tech support was useless. Clues?

sounds like you need to know the NetBIOS/NetBEUI name of the wireless print server, or its IP address. Do the instructions indicate which it uses?

u need a printer entry. click add printer, if ur using 2k or xp, click on local printer, and follow the steps. will need to knwot he default IP addy the printer server uses.

if using 9x, you should be adding a network printer (this is true for dlink print servers, so im just guessning its the same for linksys).

under your instructions it should have stated this correct?? you dont just install the drivers for the printer server, connect the printer server and magically expect to start printing. an actaully printer device is hooked up to the print server correct?

In the book it will indicate the default IP. Use your browser to configure the print server, then you should be able to connect to it. Those setup disks should never ever leave their sleeves. :D

If it's wireless, it should get an IP via DHCP from the router I think. Your router may have an "attached devices" list in the admin control panel, my Netgear MR814 does. Maybe it will show up there so you can find out the IP.

Along those lines, I'm not sure how your print server works and all, but if it needs a static or reserved IP, you will need to setup the reserved ip in your router. You'll need the MAC address of the print server to do this, usually there is a sticker on the print server to tell you this. Then reserve the IP in the router, and when you restart the print server it *should* get the reserved IP.

I have an IOGear wired USB print server, and when I setup the new printer, I don't setup a TCP/IP printer port. Instead I have to select a "Network Print Port". Maybe yours is similar. Check the documentation.

You may also be having issues with neighboring wireless networks. Try using NetStumbler from your main computer to see if anyone else nearby is running a wlan that may be conflicting with your setup.
