Dang... I have slightly high blood pressure :(

DaShen

Lifer
I took the day off yesterday for a dentist appointment and they took my blood pressure. It is slightly high for my age.

I haven't gone cycling in about a month because I got hurt a month ago. This weekend was the first time in a while and the heat was so ridiculous, I only went on a 12 miles ride.

Plus I have been eating out almost every day for the past 3 weeks while going to a breakfast stand in the monring and getting 2-3 breakfast tacos a day (approx. 4+ eggs). I don't know why I didn't think it would affect me. 🙁

My resting HR went up to 56, too. ARGGGGG. All that hard work down the drain.

Dang it, back to fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and some chicken breasts for a couple months. Funny, I was wondering why I was getting headaches the past couple of weeks. 😉

just lose some weight and you will be all right.

😉 I am not that husky. I do cycle. I just need to lay off the eggs and eat more at home for the next few months.

But I love eggs... 🙁

I am actually craving those dang breakfast tacos right now, but I ate fruit this morning instead.

I will need to buy more oatmeal later tonight.

eggs have nothing to do with high blood pressure.

Eating out and whatever else is in that taco (the taco shell itself) may have caused your heart rate to elevate.

Blood pressure is not constant and fluctuates significantly day to day (and even hour to hour). Mostly that just means that you had a salty meal that day. If you are consistently measured as slightly high over a period of a month or so, then start worrying.

Hopefully, that is the case, but I have been eating really unhealthy the past couple of weeks.

Most likely it was all the salt you've been eating. I went into the dentist, wasn't feeling too well, and was measured at about 160/100. I had never been (and have never since) been measured remotley close to that.

160/100 :Q

DANG. I was 136/85. I thought that was bad.

160/100 is not good at all....were you really stressed that day or what??

Remember this is the key to a dx of hypertension.....

Presently finding sustained blood pressure of 140/90 mmHg or above, measured on both arms is generally regarded as diagnostic. Because blood pressure readings in many individuals are highly variable ? especially in the office setting ? the diagnosis of hypertension should be made only after noting a mean elevation on two or more readings on two or more office visits, unless the elevations are severe or associated with compelling indications such as diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney disease, heart failure, post-myocardial infarction, stroke, and high coronary disease risk.

That being said, my resting BP last week was ~105/55 😉

You don't have to go on a diet for the rest of your life. Just don't eat garbage every single day and you will be alright.

Your resting heart rate is 56 and you have high BP?

I'd get it checked again. Going to the dentist can cause stress. Your BP test there may have reflected that. Next time you're at store with a pharmacy, use their BP machine and see what it says. I'd bet your fine.

Don't worry about eating eggs, just don't salt them like crazy. It won't hurt you to eat out every now and then, especially if it's a good place with fresh ingredients. Just don't eat breakfast tacos by the handful and stop at McDonald's on your way home every day.

55 diastolic is pretty low. But athletes can sometimes have pretty low blood pressure and be fine. As long as you aren't feeling dizzy or having any symptoms of hypotension, you should be okay.

Calcium and more water can help to lower blood pressure, too.

Nice resting heart rate! I think mine is around 80.
