Dang... got jury duty

Received a summons the other day to report to the county circuit court for jury duty next week. I guess its always possible that it could be settled prior to that day, but it still sucks not knowing if I will actually have to serve and for how long. I really wouldn't mind doing it, if I would be paid by my employer for the time off (I'm a contract engineer right now). Missing out on this pay REALLY sucks because I've been saving almost every penny on a future down payment for my first home. :|

I guess the most unsettling thing was that a few years ago, while I was co-oping in college, I had to go to the same court for jury duty, and they were selecting jurors for some molestation case that they claimed would be for 3-4 days a week for almost 2 months :Q.

Anyone have experience with jury duty?

Don't piss off the bailiff.

BS. I say punch him/her. That'll get you out of jury duty.

<----hasn't been selected for jury duty, but wouldn't mind being.

If you know what kind of case it's for, just tell them you're incredibly biased on the issue. They'll probably let you go. 😛 Either that or claim you know someone involved in whatever it's about.

'course I'm not sure how legal that is, but I've known people that did it.

how can they prove the notice didn't get lost in the mail or that you even received it?

I was wondering about that... but I'm sure they could come back with some crap and just say that you are SOL.

Last time I got called up for jury duty was Sept 11, 2001. They sent us home after awhile, but it was because they reached an agreement before taking it to trial, not because of what was happening on the east coast...

If you don't show up, they will issue a summons for your arrest.
