Denmark ready to vote on scrapping EU defence opt-out

After staying out of the European Union's common defence policy for 30 years, Denmark votes Wednesday in a referendum on whether to overturn its opt-out after Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

NATO and EU defense commitments are not the same thing.

No it is a danish peculiarity from 1992, just like we have opted out of the Euro, justice and police and citizenship.

We joined at the same time as UK, and then voted no to Maastricht treaty in 1992 effectively blocking all of EU progress but later voted yes to Edinburgh agreement, which were the same as Maastricht, but with the four excemptions.
