Pulled part of this from FatWallet:

Awesome deal for all you musicians out there. This is a great guitar (unusual 7 string---you can remove the 7th string though). Reg $599 for $99!
Da Link

They're backordered until April 1st, but still a good deal. Also, might wanto to get the DOD GS30 Guitar Effects Processor for $99. It lists for $219.
Da Link Pt. 2

Both of these units got excellent reviews (one review said the Mod 7 should cost 3 times more than it does). Very nice. I'm gonna JAM :)

If you click the Add to Cart button you get "Carousell Shop 6.0 Error Command Routine String: did not function"

If you try to add a specific color guitar from the availability page it tells you "We're sorry, but that item is currently not available on our website. It may be discontinued, or the manufacturer may have requested us to remove it temporarily. Please remove any bookmarks you have that link directly to this page. Thanks!"

Thanks for the links! I hope it gets fixed so that they can be back-ordered!

Danelectros were cheap crap in the 60's , and they are still cheap crap today...save your money, you could do better at a local pawn shop unless that is you are looking for that "cheap crap 60's guitar sound" :)

Obviously you have no knowlegde of guitar history. The Dano's were VERY popular in the early 60's (Jimmy Page was probably one of it's biggest fans---most of Led Zeppelin's first 3 albums were recorded with one). They were known for their very deep, dark sound and low price. The new MOD series is a recreation of those 60's classic styles and according to the reviews sound excellent (here's one review:

Some guitars come with 7 strings now...it's just a new twist. You know, like a 5 string bass. You can either leave the 7th string off to provide some extra bending room, or add the 7th string and tune it to anything you like, therefore increasing your range (I like to ad an extra high E for 50's sounding solos :) ). I've been playing for 15 years and have owned a '61 Dano (marketed by Sears under the Silvertone label), a 7 string Ibenez, a 78 Les Paul Studio (blonde), and a Martin 12 string and Ovation roundback. Trust me...this is a good guitar and an awesome deal.

In my opinion, Danelectros have a great acoustic sound (when it's not plugged in). Very resonant and with those 7 strings and that bridge humbucker, I'm sure you can do some low end riff work for recordings and things. Those 7 string Ibanez's are overpriced, even the Universe guitar..just my .02$

Back in their hey-day, they were the most popular session guitars available. Probably because it was the best guitar those starving musicians could afford :)

Looks pretty sweet. If you want one of these you should order it now. Last month Musician's Friend had a backorder of Danelectro 12-string Hodad's on sale and canceled some of the orders after they started shipping them out.

Fritzo you are obviously high and way illinformed. The Daneloctro's were admitedly, by them, cheap crap. They functioned but were by no means even a decent guitar.

Jimmy Page may have owned some for the "kitsch" factor. But he mainly(almost exclusively) used a Tele to record the early albums.

Also they do not have a deep dark sound. They are known for their bright thin, almost metalic sound. This is due to the lipstick pickups, and the cheap light wood, or even cheaper masonite.

They were ok and functioned for the money. But they were popular because they were the cheapest guitar you could find period. This and the fact they were found in the Sears catalog, Wards, etc., meant they were mainstream cheap starter guitars. They were meant for nothing more.

They were unique and did have cool(somewhat ugly) styling, and tone. So many do like them for this fact and for nostalgia. But they are almost unusable because of bad electronics, tuners, and the like. But if they are rewired and setup better, if you take it easy on them to keep them in tune, you can use it for a song or two. A good wax dipping or full pickup replacement is a good option also.

Don't get me wrong this is a good find. And I'm thinking of getting one. It is a good price. And I'm sure the electronics are pretty good by now. So it's more than worth the money. It would by great as a special purpose guitar. Given the unique pickups and the added string, it could open up many posibilities. I hope they get some in stock when they say they will.

And I am impressed with Danelectro since they restarted the company. They now make good on their old code of bang for the buck. They make much better stuff now than they used to. And they keep their prices the same. Their pedals are very cool, and cheap as hell. And I highly recommend them. So I have a lot of faith in the new Danny stuff.

But I felt I had to address your comments about the guitar history thing. You were way off base there. I have nothing against these style guitars. But lets not misrepresent their place here. Danelectro's, Tiesco DelRey's, Sears Silvertone's, Harmony's, etc., were and are cheap crap. This is not a bad thing. As I have owned all of them. And I have enjoyed their different charms. But I am under no illusions as to their place among their peers as far as quality is concerned.

That said, this guitar looks to be pretty cool. And at that price an awesome buy. It would be very cool to own just for something different. And you don't have to worry about the buzzing and microphonic pickups of the originals.
