Thats it... AVG is a complete piece of sh!t...

Just booted up my other rig (which i run every day or two), and once booting to windows, nothing loads.... Every program i have on there gives me a file not found error....

Run AVG, finds nothing....... Install Norton Trial, run it, finds a trojan backdoor.... Infecting winampa.exe

I cant even get into my control panel apps, all come up as file not found.... Files downloaded to my desktop yield the same result, file not found.

FYI, uninstall that AVG garbage and get a real anti-virus suite....

Was wondering if AVG had probs like that, I assumed so. All are suspect to miss a new virus, but, it's a matter of how quick they catch them and AVG can't have the resources that Trend, NAI, and Symantec have. Maybe I'm wrong.

If you are dl'ing crap to give you viruses you might as well download the crap that stops them too. ;)

confirmed AVG sucks horribly. friend had it installed on one of his friends computers. was getting strange behavior, but AVG detected nothing. I told him to install norton's, did and it came back finding 7 virii.

AVG = POS

You're blaming a free antivirus scanner for letting you download a TROJAN and run it. Sounds like someone used the trojan to log into your machine, who then did a manual delete of your files.

AVG as an anti-VIRUS is still great, especially since it is free.

Although if I had paid for AVG and it couldn't pick up Trojans, then I'll be mad too. I'm running an AV right now that isn't too great at picking up trojans either. :(

You did remember to update the signatures, right? ;) Very common mistake!

So what do you use for trojans? I'm a norton fan, but I'm open to something better.

Ah, you mustn't be running behind a firewall then. Or you aren't using the latest patches for XP?

A/v doesn't stop the trojans from getting on board... even the good ones.

NAV 2K2 is the best AV I ever used! It detects all virus-like activity, not only those ones it ca detect, and quarantines them. 100% fool proof system.

Argh.... System Restore warrants no luck.... Absolutely nothing is loading....

Can anyone find out any info about this virus?

BackDoor.Optix.AE

Just picked up Norton Internet Security, but i believe it may be too late to save my drive...
