Jesus, this SUCKS.

Umm now you have their address... use amex line of credit to get a flight and a baseball bat

Amex won't tell me their address, but UPS might. Calling right now.

While I don't have an AMEX card I've heard nothing but good things from others in the past. However after reading this thread it makes me wonder what kind of f'ed up security measures they have in place. Good luck trying to get this hashed out.

Chances are, the address is just a drop apartment for cards and statements. They probably get a new one every week, once the cards come in.

I have seen a credit card drop apartment. They look for units with an in-door mail slot, so the mailbox doesn't fill up. They opened the door to the unit and the mail was piled 3 feet high. Thousands of statements. And no, they were never caught.

Actually call both the FBI and Post Office now...this has definitely entered their charters.

Someone has to be going to this address even if it's just a dropbox.

Op, how do you think they got your CC #? You are still in possession of your card right?

It's possible to get access to the credit card without having the actual card or even the #. A lot of companies let you generate virtual credit cards for online purchases when you login to their site, so all they would need is your login information and you're screwed. Not sure if the OPs accounts have this, but it sounds plausible since the thieves had access to both of his Amex cards.

Regarding the inquiries on your credit report, maybe they requested a credit line increase so they could charge even more to the card?

Ok, we got UPS to recall the package before it made it there and YES I do have their full address, home phone AND cell phone.

Debating if I should call the Miami-Dade PD or my local PD

I really have no idea unfortunately. The card was still in my wallet and was really only used once every 2-3 months, primarily at Amazon

I have been led to believe they somehow hijacked my online Amex account, got my info, then called and changed all my information to theirs. How they got my actual CC, no idea... But Amex confirmed they they did call and pretend to be me on what appears to be multiple occasions.

What's amazing is that now that my online access is restored, I logged in and see all their information (sans their name as its my name on the account). Although Amex wouldn't provide it to me, since the website takes 24 hours to update the info, I can see it listed under one of my cards (I called again to confirm its been changed and it has been, just not on the website as of yet). They even went as far as to put their cell phone in the mobile alerts so they get text messages when there is activity on my account.

What's the debate? I'd be on the phone with both...although this is more than likely now a federal matter as well.

Just did a little more digging, ran a property records search in miami and got their names. Granted, dunno if its rented out, but its definitely a start.

Now I have what I believe to be;

Full name
Address
Home Phone
Cell Phone

Should be enough for the cops I hope.

I am surprised that they were able to make changes to your account so easily. Usually when I call in to get anything changed, AmEx CS would put me through a series of security questions. One time they even ask me to name one of my siblings.

They must have a lot of personal info on you like ss#, mother?s maiden name, and who knows what else to have Amex sending them cards. My experience with the police is that nothing will happen that?s why you hear of this stuff more and more. Also sometimes this can be caused by family members do you have any that live in that area? I am really surprised that Amex is dropping the ball so much on this, they are usually one of the best when it comes to these things.

Well, time to pull it out.

Call the big three and start the process of listing for Identity Theft.
Pull all three credit reports.
CANCEL all your current credit cards.
CLOSE your current bank account(s) and open new ones.
Advise all your current (if any lenders) of this situation.
Notify local law enforcement for both you and the suspect's area.
Notify your local Postmaster (mail fraud - check).
Notify the FBI &/or Secret Service (wire fraud - check).
Notify the Social Security office, and request to have a new number issued.
Monitor your credit and accounts like a hawk for the next year.

Have fun!

Aphex, I think you're assuming that all of the info you have is of the person who actually stole your card. NOBODY is that dumb. The address is a drop point, the home phone may be skype or a phone at a temp location, the cell phone is pre-paid, and I'm guessing the name is of the poor sod who owns the house being used as a drop point. Just give what you have to the police, post office, and FBI, and let them run with it.
