My system started randomly locking up on me today, and after one particular BSOD, I had to reboot. During bootup, Windows tells me that the registry was corrupted and was being replaced with a backup of itself. Well, turns out that it's a *year old* backup, and it's running horribly unstable right now... I'm burning everything of value to CD and moving onto XP, wish me luck. :)

EDIT - Goddamn XP won't even acknowledge the fact that I'm using a RAID adapter :| I even downloaded the drivers for the card and put them on a diskette, so when the install program asks if I want to specify a driver for a SCSI/RAID card, I do - and it goes on to tell me that I don't have any HD's installed!!! *looks at computer* I SEE TWO RIGHT THERE BUCKO! :|

arg, F this, I'm goin back to good ol 98 SE

Don't you just love it when your computer does that? I had a period of about 3 months where both my computers kept crashing and wouldn't boot back into windows. Ditched XP and went back to win2k and haven't had any problems since. I liked XP, just couldn't keep my computers stable. Good luck with your install. :)

What OS were you running? I had XP but it was too unstable so I came back home to Win2K.

Backup software? Fdisk...

(In other words, the drive the OS is on doesn't have anything other than the OS..)

Wow, that was fun. I was up until 2am last night, backing up everything I need to CD (about 15-20gigs)... I try setting XP up and it doesn't find my HD (I have a RAID stipe setup /w a hacked Fastrack ATA/66 card), funny how even 98 can find it when I do a fresh install

Anyways, I temporarily installed 98 so I can get back online and download the RAID drivers... I'm posting from work right now, the project moves on...

Your system couldn't be stable with WinXP. That says something about your hardware configuration more than the operating system. Windows XP is based on the same as Windows 2000, except it has extras. It should be equally stable as Win2K (and it has been for me and many others). If you had stability problems, you shouldn't blame WinXP, but whatever you've done to your PC to make it unstable. :p

If Win2K works better for you though and you prefer it, then fine, enjoy. :)
