Well, I'm frustrated and I'm driving myself insane. My number one priority now is to have some kind of income ($1000-2000/month). I just quit my hellish $6/hr supermarket job. And since its so hard to find a job these days, maybe I shouldn't have.

A little bit about me:

I am 21 years old, going to college for computer science (just decided on it). I recently got my A+ certification. I am going to put out applications to BestBuy, Staples, CompUSA for their computer departments.

Reading another thread got me thinking that I should print out business cards advertising computer repair, upgrades, etc. and give them to businesses and put them in apartment complexes. However, I am still not too confident in my computer skills.

I am open to self employment ideas like starting a business. I used to run an adult web site (please don't make fun), and I made decent money but I now refuse to because its just too boring and pathetic. I was thinking about trying to build and sell "quiet" cases.

Any suggestions and advice?

You can always try and apply for some tech helpdesk positions at your local IT companies... would be much better experience than selling computer parts at BB... even if you dont get it, it never hurts to try...

i make close to $14/hour as a deptartment manager at kmart and made just over $29,000 last year. For a 19yo, that's not too shabby. Retail may be slow, but that's where the money will always be at. Besides...do you plan to work full or part time?

you could look into tutoring high school students in math and science. sometimes you can earn up to $20/hour doing that.

Part time unless it is a really good opportunity. I want to take a summer class so I can fill a prerequisite for Fall.

I would still be able to reach my goal if I could get a better paying job ($10+/hr) or couple it with self employment.

Me, teach math or science? Poor kids ;)

What about repairing PCs at BestBuy or MicroCenter? I Don't think that Quiet PC thing will fly due to the cost of shipping, but you might be able to do an odd one here and there locally. I'm with you on the thought, though. I'll pay good money and spend a LOT of time quieting down a PC, but I doubt many others would.

It doesn't have to be IT-company. All companies that use computers need IT-support, regardless of their field of business. I work as an IT-support, and my employer is not in IT-business.
