Well I took the head unit from my old car (Alpine CDA-9813) into CC to get it installed in the new one last night and the damaged my dash and scratched my rear bumper down to the plastic. I didn't expect a great install but the took 2 and a half hours (with only my car in the shop and two installers) and they screwed up the wiring harness the first time through (hooked up the amp on/off lead to the wrong wire). They also mounted the head unit in so far that the only way to remove the removable face plate is to push the release button and then grab the volume knob with your finger tips to pull it out.

I specifically asked them if they'd installed on my model before and of course they claimed that they had earlier that day. I'm an idiot for believing that but whatever. The pry marks they left on the dash royally pissed me off. All you need to do to remove the dash cover there is open the ash tray and pull out the edge by hand and it pops right off.

Pry Marks
Poor mounting and example of how to pull off the bezel properly.
Bumper Scratch - About 1/4" inch long and scratched down to the plastic.

The pry marks aren't major but there are three of them (the one along the top edge isn't very visible though) and any idiot should've known not to do something like that.

Luckily I took pictures of the car yesterday morning to show it off here and to some friends and the original picture shows a scratch-free bumper and a comparison picture shows the scratch (little white mark about 6" or so to the right of the trunk's keyhole on the bumper). Part of the reason I'm posting this here today is to get some record that the damage did occur in the last 24 hours, the other part is because I'm pissed of course.

Get to call CC at lunch and then go in tonight and see what kind of bullshit they try and pull on me. I don't want money or a refund, I want the damage repaired back to the original condition. The car is 4 freaking days old.

I would've done the damn install myself but I didn't want to have to run the power cable through the firewall from the battery, that's a pain in the ass. I figured at the worst they'd do a poor job of mounting the install kit and I'd have to adjust it, which is no big deal. *sigh* I definately wasn't planning on letting them do my sub or my new speakers and dynamatting.

As an aside, the factory "Infinity" head unit was sooo bad that the system sounds MUCH MUCH better with the new head unit. It sounds like I actually changed out the speakers at the same time. I've never heard a head unit make that much of a difference before without changing speakers.

I can't really tell where the scratch is. Why don't you circle it in photoshop or something.

Yes, the pry marks are a bit bad, but I can't even see the bumper scratch in any of the photos.

Sucks, though.

Since you have these pictures, both before and after, contact the management and demand they make it right. (body work and a new dash)

You have a very strong case, and they have a poor installation staff.

Nice car. :) In general I would never say that about a Hyundai but the new Tiburons are quite attractive & seem to be a very good value.

Make sure they fix it.

Because it was just a head unit install, I didn't think it was possible to screw it up as badly as this. I was wrong. I should've turned around and left when I had to basically force them to install the battery power cable and they charged me $35 extra for it. Alpine has a 60x4 MOSFET amp built in and they recommend a seperate power connection straight to the battery with a 15 amp fuse inline. The installers of course claimed it was completely unecessary and I had to tell them several times I wanted it anyway before they'd agree to it. Oh well, last time I make the mistake of having BB, CC, The Good Guys, etc... do anything to my car.

Going to hit up Speaker Works in the Anaheim area or West Coast Auto Sound in Aliso Viejo or Mission Viejo to do the speaker install and dynamatting when my Infinity Kappas come in.

LOL, it sounds like you are spending more on the stereo than you did on the car.

Sucks they scratched your car. I would be upset but its just a car, far worse things will happen once you start driving it everyday.

I still don't understand why the STi doesn't come with a radio. I know they are trying to keep the cost and weight down but come on, no radio.

Put a red circle around it. It's a pretty small white mark but it's obviously there and in the other picture there are NO marks there even if you zoom all the way in (original pic is 2048x1600 or something).

Well, I got the Kappa 693.5's for around $120 or so and the 63.5's for around $130-140 and Pioneer TS-T15 tweeters for about $50 then add shipping (and no tax) to all of that. So about $400 worth of speakers. The head unit I already had from the previous car, same with my Infinity Basslink. A good sound system (not a trunk rattler, a good SOUNDING system) is very important to me. I spend at least 1-1.5 hours a day in my car, sometimes more on the weekends, and I like to enjoy my music. :)

Yup, I know. If I caused those things I'd probably just ignore them. But I didn't, "professional" installers did. I'm not really upset at the moment, that will come when I start dealing with the CC manager. :p

you should have done it yourself. you would have learned some invaluable things that way and you probably wouldn't have scratched up anything since you'd have been so careful.

LOl I notice they don't even list horsepower on the 2.0

I was under the impression it was a god value as well, however by the time you get it to where the care is worth buying, you can afford to lease an RSX Type-S for just about the same price.

I hate hyundai.. they lure you in with cheap base models, then you realize that to make a car that compares to the commpetition they charge just as much or more.

Top of the line Tiburon = $21237
Comparible RSX = $24161

CC/BB/Big box retailers are not the place to go to get stuff installed in a car. The employees are not nearly as good as those at a dedicated car stereo store.

Make sure you didn't sign a damage waiver or anything like that. If you did, you may not have any recourse. If you did sign one and didn't realize what you were signing, you've just learned a valuable life lesson. Read everything before you sign on the line.

I know you wanted to save some time and effort but I would never ever have circuit city or best buy touch my car! They know less about car stereos than my dad! Sorry to hear that they screwed stuff up. Hope you get everything fixed.

Yeah, I was impatient. I had a hard time finding the proper install kit and no-one had a kit that specifically supported my year and model so I decided to take it in and let the store install it and waste a kit if an older kit wouldn't work. From the looks of things the older kit may not have fit properly but I won't know until I try to adjust it myself and I don't want to do that until after the damage claim has been dealt with.

And I personally think the Acura is bland. The Tiburon is much better looking and $3k less. On top of that it's a 4 cylinder with 142 lb-ft of torque, compared to a 6 cylinder at 181 lb-ft of torque. Sure it has 29 more hp but that's at 7400 RPM, ack.

So, all said, I'd rather drive the Tiburon even at an equal price. Although at that price the Eclipse GTS would probably be the best deal.
