Damned rubik's cube stickers

Got my 3x3 cleaned, lubed up and ready to go. Everyone knows the stickers that are on the cube when you originally buy it are crap and peel off in about 2 days. Why they don't just paint the plastic I guess I'll never know.

Anyways, everyone recommends cubesmith.com for buying better stickers. So I got a couple sets. I just tried to put a few of the stickers on though and they all came off looking crooked and crappy...just as I expected they would. There's no way human hands can put all 54 stickers on and have them look good. Especially hands as big as mine. They need to be put on by machine.

Anyways, those were a waste of money and time as I figured. I need to paint this sucker and get rid of these god damn son of a bitch stickers already. Need to find a paint that doesn't wear off, comes in the original colors of the rubik's cube, doesn't gum up the cube or handicap the turning at all, and isn't crazy expensive. Think I looked at this stuff a while back...Vinyl Dye seems to be what I need...not sure if I can get it cheap and in the colors I'm looking for though.

I bought both stickers and tiles from cubesmith recently haven't had a problem.

I stickered one 3x3 with tiles.... super easy to do and do neatly. Use both hands and line them up with the edge and once it's straight, press down.
I stickered my other 3x3 with the vinyl stickers, and it was definitely harder, I'm not gonna lie, but it wasn't difficult. Same technique as the tiles.

And I also stickered a 4x4 with tiles, same story. It's not that difficult if you take your time and you got decent lighting. I stickered 204 stickers without a problem

Who the fuck mods a rubik's cube? Good lord, this place has reached a new low of ridiculous nerditiy that nobody thought possible.

I didn't mod mine but I bought one that looks exactly like the one from the film Let The Right One In so it reminds me of it.

Needed one after seeing that 10 times and counting. Will be watching it at least once a year.

Everybody has their hobbies.

Speedcubing happens to be one of mine.

You forget you're on a forum largely dedicated to nerds how like nerdy things. Don't like it? GTFO.

Yea, if you buy a rubik's brand rubik's cube, then generally yes, the stickers will start to peel after a few days.

They don't make them like they used to, and generally the rubik's brand cube is junk.

damn you AT, getting me to look into cubes....and to think I was just playing with an old YoMega I found last night in my basement

Mine is fine. I've had it for 6 months or so, used it A LOT and haven't had any stickers peel off. I generally solve it a couple of times a day, but occasionally do the thing like 50 times during a movie or something.

I have, however, had a couple of the centre pieces pop off during use. They snapped back on fine, though.

I think I still have my original from back in the day. I probably have most of my old yoyos somewhere around here. Sucks I can't get them out - my kids would destroy them...or break stuff around the house.

I don't see how it would be possible for humans to apply the stickers and have it end up looking nice and neat.

I'll check out krylon fusion...It will most likely be difficult to find all the right colors. And if they are $10 a can I'll probably pass. Whatever they do cost I'll have to multiply it by 6 since there are six sides. Kinda fun just playing with a blank rubik's cube 😀

tweezers and a straightedge should do it. Might need a couple ounces of scotch first, as well.

It's easy actually once you get the hang of it. Peel sticker, and using both hands (I stick the sticker on the edge of both thumbs) I line it up with the edge of each square. Once I'm satisfied that it's straight, I press down. I screwed up once on the vinyl stickers, but they're forgiving enough that you can peel it off again and put it on if you do it immediately.

Doesn't take that long either once you get into a rhythm. Honestly, painting it would sound like it'll end up looking even worse, but that's just me.
