Eh, I can't sleep, and i'm bored again, so I was thinkin...
I got some Gift certificates to local bowling alleys for my birthday, which I liked. The first time I use some, the total comes to something like $12.42, I used 3 of my gift certificates ($5 each) and then the dude at the counter was like 'Have a good night', and I say "Do I get any change?" and he says "Nah, you can't get change with gift cards". Bleh. Then I went earlier today, go up to pay. I bring some coupons for $1.54 a game, since it's usually 1.84 a game. So total was about $11.58 or somethin like that, so i use 2 giftcards and pay the rest of it so i'm not to lose any money. Then the girl at the counter says "You can't use coupons with gift certificates". Dammit. Can they legally do that? Gift certificates should act like real money, at the place the gift certificate is for and no other place of course, but they should really be considered real money at the designated locations.
You shouldn't have to lose money for using a gift certificate, as in not being able to use coupons or get change back after over paying with the certificates (this could be solved by having a giftcard, instead of using the check-like paper certificates, but that's how some places do it).
Gift cards usually have some kind of inactivity fee also, where after a year or two the gift card will start to be depleted a certain amount every month until it's totally out, I see no reason for that either. Can they legally do this kind of stuff? I want to report them 😛 - I'm not super angry at them or anything, but I think it's a shady process. If I can report them somehow, how would I do it?
