Doesn't really matter when they're ugly, though. If people could have seen their faces all over the news 250 years ago they'd never have been elected.

Actually, Washington was considered quite imposing and somewhat attractive. He was well taller than average. Unfortunately, all his teeth fell out and he went through different versions of very uncomfortable dentures. Which is why you never see a picture of him smiling.

This guy was http://www.worldpress.org/Europe/1995.cfm

That was a pity election. That guy's face gives me the feeling I get when somebody mentions castration. Like, you can just feel something very unique down in your gut just thinking about it... that guy's face does that.

See, I thought he might just be old and decrepit in all the famous pictures, so I looked at a younger portrait: http://www.scottish.parliament.uk/tarta...ral/George%20Washington%20portrait.jpg

Maybe it's the fault of the painter, but young George Washington has a$$hole written all over him. It's the smirk that does it.

Yes, people are more likely to elect somebody to lead their nation out of pity for the person rather than the patriotic idea of saving their nation.

Damn right they are. Take the US, for example. A huge portion of the populace is willing to vote somebody on the most superficial and pointless qualities (looks, campaign trail scandals, things they did when they were 8 years old, drug use, sexuality, "gut" thinking). Of course the citizens of whatever Eastern-European nation that is might be totally different. Might be.

Actually, they used good 'ole 110 film.

And we all know how stunningly accurate paintings can be...
