About 3 years ago I got hosting through 1dollarhosting.com (which is part of WebCountry). It sucked, crashed, and died. i called and called with no answers from the company, assumed they went belly up.

They didn't, now I have a $350 late payment from them on my credit report (ok, it was $1 / month, how does it get to $350?!). Never heard any word from them, no bill , nothing. I had prepaid for a year when I signed up.

I just got into grad school and need loans and this will make things suck! Also, during an investigation for my job it came up and now they think I'm a liar since I answered, I'm not late on any bills. Argh.. and there are horror stories about the company online (weren't any in 2004 that I could find) and 98 complaints on file with the BBB. The company told BBB they didn't care.

I check my credit reports once a year, but they added this at the end of last year (after I had checked). The phone number for the collection agency goes elsewhere, so I think that is even a sham. Anyone near Tarzana, CA that can go smack some sense into Phil Shapiro (President)?!

Cliffs
- Got cheap hosting in 2004
- Site died, company didn't respond to e-mails, phone calls, anything
- Have a negative on my credit report that I owe them $350
- Have a lot of explaining to do

Not to revive an old thread or anything but I have to vent:

Got off the phone with the scumbags. Got the hosting in 2002 so I used by school e-mail. E-mail doesn't work anymore but the ONLY way they communicate is via e-mail. They said it never bounced back. I didn't know I still had an active account so they just continued to charge me. They never sent me a bill in the mail. They say there was "activity" on the server in 2004/05. He reads me the page that was on my own server in 2004, hosted out of my then office. I KNOW I had switched it by then. I have the logs on my old server to prove the DNS was switched. He must of pulled out the "way back machine" at archive.org and read the page.

Argh, I wish I cared more about personal vengeance then my credit report. If this was a couple years ago they would be going down.
