I'll try to be as short and to the point as possible.

1. Ordered knives 12/11/02 for $84 and some change. Since lost statement for this date, don't remember if the company charged the account or not.

2. On 12/11/03, same company charged bank account $119 and some change. (shows up on online statement) No product received for that charge, and no orders were even made either on this date from that company.

3. Ordered statement from back then from bank since didn't have statement in records.

4. Bank says have 60 days to dispute charge.

So it's common practice for a company to charge the account when the product ships. Is there any reason why the company would wait 1 year to charge his account (assuming they didn't charge the first time)? What do I need to do now? Is there anything I can do at all if it turns out that this charge isn't supposed to be on there?

Please, serious advice only. I don't want any "You live, you learn" or "That sucks" replies. Thank you.

Update:

Apparently it was the second half of the payment that we owed to the company. The knives (Miracle Blade if you must know) were sent as a trial basis and if we liked it, the second half would be charged. Why they charge it one whole year later, it beyond me. This is such a shady business practice. I called up customer service (long distance number also), was on hold for 25 minutes, and got an employee who didn't sound like he wanted to be there. After some disputes, he said he'll transfer me to a supervisor, but the mailbox was full and the call was dropped. I called again and this time got a supervisor after going through another CSR who didn't want to be there. After much debate, they finally agreed to credit back the charge. I took down her name, ID number, time of call, date of call, and details. NEVER order the Miracle Blades, as the customer service sucks, and they bill you ONE year later also. I told my parents to do their research first before any online purchases. Lesson learned.

did you ever get the knives? i take it you're still waiting for the older statement to see if it was billed as that original ammount last year...

company sounds fishy, even if they didnt bill you a year ago, seems retarded that they try to recently, call em up after you have the old statement in hand and see whats up

Yes, did get the knives (a year ago from the original order, but don't have the statement to see the actual charge). Even if they did not charge the account the first time, can they wait one whole year to charge the account? I'm thinking they can't do such a thing. Besides, the amounts are totally different also.

Dispute the charge.

Let the company that is making the charge prove that you got the merchandise that they are charging you for that was shipped in 03.

The bank can then take it up if the compnay wishes to claim that they never charged you in 02.

Did you pay for your online order using a DEBIT/CHECk card?

Since you can't recall if you were ever charged for the initial 12/11/02 order of $84 and you lost your bank statement. Have you contacted your bank and requested they mail you copies of your statements for December 2002 - January 2003? Some banks even have this information online. One of my online banks offers ONLINE statements going back 12 months.

Get all your facts straight, make a time line of events from the date you first ordered to present.

If you did pay for your order using a DEBIT/CHECK card use a credit card next time, always use a credit card.

This is actually for my dad. We have contacted the bank and requested a statement for Dec 2002 to see if the $84 was charged or not. Even if it was not charged, I don't know why they would charge $119 in Dec 2003 when no orders were made at all. I'm asking on what I can do now to recover that charge. Next time just CC.

I would dispute it period. Regardless of whether they charged you a year ago or not, they charged you too much this time. And waiting a year to charge? Please.
Dispute it.

Dispute it. Your bank will have you sign an affadavit saying you did not authorize the charge.

Is it too late to return the knives under the trial offer and own nothing like the tv says?
