Had to RMA my Intellimouse Explorer(Lifetime Warranty) because it's been dying on me and it's pretty much useless now...

So I call up MS... get the information needed to fax to them... 5 days later I finally get an email confirming the RMA and saying my new mouse will be shipped, the order is in process. 2 days after that... BACKORDERED! :|

Here's the kicker... Backordered with an estimated shipping date of 03/25/03 :Q:|:disgust:

Probably cuz people are abusing their system. Way to go guys that didn't actually have a broken mouse.

Bah... it's their stupid system that's messed up in the first place and allows for that flaw.

If I had to send them my mouse... i'm sure it would take less than 5 weeks for a replacement.

So instead of asking people to send the broken one back, they send the replacement so late that half the people will just order a few spare ones claiming theirs is broken so they won't be without a mouse for over a month?

Well; back in the day before MS's replacement policy graced AT's and FW's "Hot Deals" forums I called on a malfunctioning intellimouse explorer and got a replacement shipped to me no questions asked in 2 days.

Now, well now I'm not suprised that they have a backlog, but I wouldn't put the blame soley on MS is what I'm saying.

Ouch. Yeah, people are definitely abusing it. I can't believe MS doesn't have a policy requiring the defective mouse to be returned.

If people continue to abuse this... sooner or later they will be doing that.

What flaw? That MS is trusting enough to at one time believe people who claimed their mouse died?

If you hate MS that much, buy Logitech and quit whining.

Blow me...

But shouldn't Microsoft's "brand-spanking-new, totally-cooler-than-sliced-bread, able-to save-the-world, and cure-all-and-be-all-solution-for-everything" .Net system environment have forseen this and be able to either:

a) notify you immediately upon submittal about the backorder problem
or.

b) forseen the dearth of mouses (IBM's editorial dept. declares this the "valid" plural form of a computer mouse) and promptly ordered or manufactured more to cover the demand?

or really,

c) will have this feature sometime in 2008, but won't work until Service Pak 28 comes out in 2012.

😛

If you don't think it was abused check the Hot Deals forum here, then swing by Fat Wallet, then do a deja.com search for it, its all over the damn place now; I'm amazed MS is still going on the honor system and most likely, in time, they wont be; which will suck for those of us that actually do have a broken mouse and would like it replaced without sending the old one in and waiting a couple weeks.

Don't blame Microsoft if they don't have the product to ship you.

In fact, the only piece of microsoft hardware I've ever had break on me was a stuck key on a keyboard and they sent me a replacement in a little under 4 days.

I've replaced 3 optical mice that have gone bad and everytime they tell you it'll be a month or more bc it is backordered but in my experience, I've gotten it in 2 weeks or less despite what they say.

Why the hell do people's intellimouse explorer mice keep dying? I have heard this before... that kinda sucks....

Dunno but most defective mice for me stop tracking accurately. They jump alot and don't get smooth lines. In fact, the mouse I'm using now is doing it. I also had to replace a mouse that had a bad main left click button.

I have one of the first ones they came out with (I use it as a spare whenever someone else brings a computer over) and it will sometimes mess up and not work right. I haven't gotten it replaced or anything, but now I see on hot deals all the people who just call and say that their mouse is broken just to get a free one. People like that should be banned for abusing a system designed to provide the best satisfaction for customers. You should be complaining over in hot deals to all the people who took advantage of this system, not Microsoft. You should be thanking them for not making you pay shipping to send your old one back and such.

I saw the title 'MicroShaft' and immediately thought of the game that did a parody about them called 'Winblows 98' 🙂

Many of the original mice in the optical series developed shorts in the connection where the wire started on the mouse. So if you moved the wire around it would be re-detected. Suposedly it was fixed in later models. Mine, which was a replacement for that problem, hasn't exhibited the problem yet; but my dad's old one had the same thing happen.
