Got a 6x IoMagic DVD drive years ago, and never expected to take it out of my case...

But IoMagic STILL hasnt released XP drivers for any of their DVD drives, even their 16x Drives, rendering the drive useless to me. Their have been reports of people who have gotten it to work with various hacks, but none have worked for me so far. Oh well.

To me, thats just unacceptable :|

I don't think IOMagic is still in business, at least not in it's old form. If I remember right, the company that currently uses that name is not the same one from a year or two ago. They prob won't support the older hardware.

always used windows own drivers for all my optical drives.
are you sure that that drive needs special non windows drivers to work in XP?

Since when do DVD/CD drives need drivers outside of what windows provides?

I got some no name DVD drive that i purchased a year ago. Never had to do a thing for drivers to get it to work.

You deffinitly do need drivers for Iomagic's DVD drivers under XP. A simple walk through their forums is proof of that, as many many people are having the same probs under XP/NT.

And im not sure about the status of IoMagic... they seem to be releasing new products (they have a GF2 MX200 card and 24x burners), but like you said, could be new owners.

Why not simply stay clear of XP - avoiding countless other problems at the same time?

Edit: there's a guy who flashed his 16X drive with Pioneer firmware. Perhaps you can find out who actually built your drive and do the same.

XP works great. And it auto detects and works fine with 95% of the hardware in use. Hell, I was upgrading a computer, and the install didn't find modem or sound drivers..but windows update did, not to mention an upgraded NIC driver. Very nice :)

I don't doubt this.

But if you have an OS that supports 100% of your current hardware, why bother paying not so few $$ for XP just for the enjoyment of having to replace 5% of your equipment?

Iomagic DVD drives suck. I bought one late last year and it refused to work (drive claimed that there was no CD/DVD in the drive). I thought about exchanging it for another one until I read the Iomagic forums and noticed a number of people had the same problem. Luckily, the people at officemax were willing to give me a refund.

I don't think Iomagic will ever come out with XP drivers. You better start looking for a hot deal on a DVD drive (not an Iomagic!).

If this is true, this will be the FIRST optical drive that I have ever heard needing OS-specific drivers..
