Anyone else seen Harley's new promotion where if you buy any 2008 or 2009 Sportster and trade it in on any new non-Sportster within a year you will receive full MSRP as trade-in on the Sportster, regardless of mileage? The kicker is that even if you negotiate a price that is less than MSRP for the Sportster, you still get the MSRP as trade-on.

A great way to get into Harley, especially if you can negotiate a good deal on the Sportster. As a bonus, in about 1 year there should be a buyer's market on used Sportsters for people who are interested (or at least as close to a buyer's market as it ever gets for Harley bikes).

only one problem: it's a harley :p

the japanese own the bike market, IMO, whether it's for sport, touring, or both. i also don't like the image/culture associated with harleys.

They aren't for everyone and I agree that Honda especially has some incredibly good bikes out right now (even though I still haven't forgiven Honda for killing off the magnificent Valkyrie), but Honda's 52-degree vees with split crank pins just don't sound right to me. I just can't help but love the sound of those 45 degree Harley twins. And Harley has come a long way since the AMF days when they bikes would fall apart. The new bikes are fuel-injected and dead reliable.

As far as the culture, I understand the image, but in many road trips across the country I have to say that bikers on Harleys are among the most pleasant people to run into. I've always found them friendly and happy to spend a few minutes talking about their trip, etc. These days the guy on a Harley is far more likely to be a doctor or lawyer than a hoodlum.

I hated my Yamaha VStar 650, I so wish I had gotten an 883.

Yup, the promotion owns, I wish I lived in the US to get it. If you don't take advantage of that you're crazy! And the Nightster is an awesome looking bike / pretty descent performer too!

I was looking at the Nightster. I've been wanting a big Harley, so this might be a good chance to trade in (and keep from loosing more money on) my V-Star 1100.

The Night Rod Special is awesome, I'm actually debating about picking one of these up soon, the only thing throwing me off is the drag style handle bars which make you sit in a "C" shape. I can't seem to find any good pull back bars anywhere online that I could mod it with if I did get one.

I'm not a hater. I just don't like Harleys, they are too heavy and don't handle all that well nor do they have great brakes. I prefer a lighter more nimble handling motorcycle like the one I have now.

My next bike will be either a Triumph Street or Speed Triple or a 2009 Ducati Monster 1100.

Then how would you know anything about the latter? I don't hang around with "annoying crotch-rocket douchebags" either (and there are some out there I'm sure).

I ride with a few different guys who ride the following bikes:

2008 Ducati GT1000 Classic Sport
2007 Honda VTX1800 (he also has a '74 Honda CB750 SS)
2007 Kawasaki Ninja ZX10
2001 Suzuki Bandit 1200

Rode with another guy yesterday who has 3 bikes. One is a Honda race bike, a Ducati Monster 750 and an MV Agusta Brutale 900.

None of them are "annoying crotch-rocket douchebags." :p

BTW-There are two guys who live on my street who ride Harleys. Both of them are good guys and good neighbors who I wouldn't mind riding with.

I just know what I want in a motorcycle and it isn't a Harley. Don't assume you know anything about me just because of the bike I ride (which isn't a crotch rocket BTW). ;)

Meh, some of them are just guys who have been riding for decades. I know a few guys like this personally.

Don't lump everyone who rides a motorcycle into the same category because the only thing you'd be is wrong.

Well why even bother commenting??

Side note: I do agree with you on the Ducati Monster. No frills, naked and nimble street fighter. I really dig the Monster series.

That Harley offer is damned nice. My bro picked up a Nightster for his first foray into bikes.
It's a nice bike for a "beginner" bike. He swapped out the pipes and replaced the cleaner housing for an all blacked out look (he's working on the suspension next to black out...dunno why).

Fair enough. Some of the Triumph bikes are cool, the cruiser they have with the 2300 CC engine is a beast. The sport touring bike they have caught my eye also (not sure the name) but upon getting on it was very uncomfortable. For the money I would rather go with a BMW touring bike or even a Honda ST 1300.

Also another bike that is pretty neat and cheap is the Suzuki V-STROM 1000.

I wouldn't mind owning a crotch rocket but bikes like that just don't fit my profile. I'm pretty tall, big, fat, and bulky. I also got a slight curved spine, so hunched over like that owns me.

Oh it is a sad day today with now knowing that Honda discontinued the Valkyrie. That was one of the bikes I absolutely loved and felt it was crafted to fit my 6'4" 350lb build. It was one of the few bikes that I sat on that didnt look as though I had a handle bar and two wheels protruding from my anus. Why the hell did I have to read that, I had and still have, plans on buying that bike, even if I can no longer ride it unless it is a trike. IMO it was the best bike ever built hands down, well maybe second to the one I saw when I worked for Chevy of Schaumberg in IL as a car salesman and the owner brought in his bike. Custom built with a Chevy 350 V8 attached to the frame. That was one mean mother of a bike.

Kinda like this video

And Especially this one!

EVERY single person I have encountered on a crotch rocket (in the dozens) has been a complete tool, incosiderate of others or juvenile. I have multiple friends with Harleys/Hondas, etc, and have met dozens of that crowd, and find them overall to be a much more mature crowd, aside from age.

And that's rich coming from the guy who bashes anyone who drives an SUV or truck at every turn.
