AP (Advanced Placement) is a different idea from what you're talking about. We don't have exams for college like many other countries do though SATs and ACTs come close. AP classes are essentially first year college courses and are elective in high school. If you take the class and do well on the exam (1 and 2 are failing, 3 is passing, 4 then 5 is top), you can receive college credit from whichever university you attend. The amount of credit varies depending on the score and the school. A 5 should always earn credit, a 4 less so, and 3 possibly. A college/university might also waive a requirement for a course if you score on an AP exam but not necessarily give you credit (ie., you can take a different course in its place).
I ended up with 15 credits for college from my AP exams -- American (5) and European (5) History, Chemistry (3), Physics (2), Calculus AB (5), though I only received credit for the 5's. I should have received another 3 credits for Calculus, but they jerked me off on that one. Can you figure out which ones I didn't study for nor care about?
