Well, nobody likes to see innocent people die but if I have to see any innocents die, let them be in the middle east and not in America. These people (not the people directly, but the government)brought this upon themselves by letting their people go bombing our buildings and terrorizing our citizens in general. This is war and there are going to be casualties, whether they be soldiers or ordinary citizens. I'm more concerned about the Daniel Pearls of our country thanks.

its not tragic. it may be a shame, a loss, a catastrophe, but it is not tragic. tragic involves a tragic flaw. there is none here.

<< How did the Americans come to target anti-Taliban officials in Hazar Qadam, and who fired first >>

A tragedy yes...but the second part of that question leaves it open...

<< We had thousands of civilians die, what's 18 of them. >>

These aren't Taliban suicide warriors. These are Afghan civilians, who we airdropped packages to :(. Regardless of who they are, friend or foe, the loss of human life is a tragedy for the entire human race. I have opposed this "war" from the beginning and will continue to do so. There are alternatives to fighting terrorism than violence. Don't let it creep into your mind, however, that I don't like this country. I love the freedom we have here and the rights we have here which are virtually nonexistent in the outside world. Just because I love the country, however, doesn't mean that I have to agree with everything it does.

How about trying to HELP the Afghan people, for starters? The air drops weren't nearly enough, as emergency officials clearly stated. The reason why they hate us so much is because we pulled out of Afghanistan after the Russians left after we promised to help them establish a government and stability. The Taliban is a result of that. Terrorism plays off the anti-American sentiment and therefore is supported by a majority of the people. Instead of fighting a symptom (terrorism) I think we should go for the cause instead.

Whatever happens, violence is never a solution. There are always alternatives. That's my two cents. Agree with it or disagree with it, that's your prerogative. :)

Oops, we did it again :)
Also, what's up with all these helicopter crashes? It's starting to become an embarrassment that we have helicopter tragedies every other day. Can't we get some quality equipment and training for the troops?

Unfortunately, violence is sometimes the only solution.

Our soldiers don't go out with the intent of killing innocents or non-combatants. They normally have standing orders not to fire unless fired upon first.

This is war. War is Hell. Anything can happen in Hell.

I don't get it.
Are we not helping them by getting rid of the Taliban?
Are we not helping them by allowing thier women to enjoy more freedoms so that they may become more productive in thier society?
Are we not helping them by giving EVRYONE more freedoms to enjoy thier lives as they see fit?

I agree dropping a few packets of food here and there *may* not be enough but we cannot do everything for them. They need to help themselves also. The loss of 18 people is not very good in any sense BUT this is an ongoing war and people are going to lose thier lives whether they be civilians or military. That is a fact. Not a very pleasant one but a fact of war none the less. People who feel that we are not doing enough to help these people should join the red cross, peace corps, or some other association and go over there and help instead of constantly complaining evreytime they see some sad event unfold on the news, because obviously they "think" they can do a better job than the people over there now.
